Papa dear, I swear it’s true:<\/p>\n

I saw a rabbit big as you!<\/p>\n

A-ridin’ on a great big horse<\/p>\n

And totin’ colored eggs, of course.<\/p>\n

What happened next I can’t explain.<\/p>\n

It’s much too tough for this child’s brain.<\/p>\n

Some bandits, neither brave nor bold,<\/p>\n

Tried to steal a load of gold.<\/p>\n

Or, at least, that’s what they thought.<\/p>\n

They found out different, once they were caught.<\/p>\n

The rabbit stopped them, I swear it’s true,<\/p>\n

By tossing eggs:\u00a0 green, yellow, blue.<\/p>\n

With careful aim he lobbed them down<\/p>\n

Upon each bandit’s luckless crown,<\/p>\n

Then scurried off, as if in fear,<\/p>\n

When one of the men he’d helped came near.<\/p>\n

(The cutest thing I’ve ever seen<\/p>\n

With curls of brown and eyes of green.<\/p>\n

But, mercy, how I do digress!<\/p>\n

Still, drooling’s fun, I must confess.)<\/p>\n

Now the rabbit’s eggs were gone,<\/p>\n

The ones he had to hide ‘fore dawn.<\/p>\n

Poor rabbit, then he lost his horse,<\/p>\n

But that’s what changed his luck, of course.<\/p>\n

Inside the saddlebags he spied<\/p>\n

A better gift than eggs to hide.<\/p>\n

The Book of books he gave away,<\/p>\n

Then mounted up and rode away.<\/p>\n

Now, Papa, put that hairbrush down!<\/p>\n

And please wipe off that angry frown.<\/p>\n

I swear that every word is true.<\/p>\n

I wouldn’t tell a lie to you.<\/p>\n

I saw that rabbit, plain as day!<\/p>\n

And that is all I have to say.<\/p>\n

Although I know my rump may rue it,<\/p>\n

That’s my story, and I’m stickin’ to it!<\/p>\n
