 <\/p>\n

CARTWRIGHTS FOREVER<\/strong><\/p>\n

Out in the west on the shores of Lake Tahoe
\nThere lived a family of great manly men;
\nHigh in the pines in the wilds of Nevada,
\nThree strapping sons and their father named Ben.
\nJoe, Hoss, and Adam were gallant young cowboys,
\nBrothers by half though their blood ran as one;
\nThe pride of their father, by three different mothers
\nWho left with the angels when their days were done.<\/p>\n

They were the Cartwrights, known far and wide,<\/em>
\nKnown for their chivalrous ways \u2013 \u00a0<\/em>
\nFor helping the helpless,<\/em>
\nBefriending the friendless,<\/em>
\nAnd rounding up bad guys as though they were strays.<\/em><\/p>\n

(Feast thine eyes, folks\u2026)<\/em>
\n\u00a0<\/em>
\nTheir ranch was a beauty they built with their own hands,
\nA sight near to Heaven or so it was claimed;
\nA thousand square miles in the land of the tall trees,
\nThe big Ponderosas for which it was named.
\nTheir home was a haven for friends and for strangers,
\nLovers and widows and orphans and kin,
\nTroubadours, vagabonds, outlaws and gypsies,
\nGirls in blue dresses and little green men.<\/p>\n

They were the Cartwrights, they all stood together,<\/em>
\nShoulder to shoulder as one.<\/em>
\nAvengers and gunfights, <\/em>
\nSheepherders and wolf bites \u2013 <\/em>
\nNo problem too big for this father and sons.<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

(But this one thing\u2026)<\/em>
\n\u00a0<\/em>
\nThough Ben was most charming and Adam was handsome,
\nHoss was endearing and Joe was so cute —
\nThere were no women, at least none that lasted;
\nThey either died or were given the boot.
\nFor whatever reason the women were fickle,
\nTragic or crazy or just passing through,
\nAmbitious, religious, in love with another,
\nLeaving our heroes all lonesome and blue.\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

They were the Cartwrights, unlucky in love;<\/em>
\nAll their romances went sour.<\/em>
\nThey\u2019d wine them and dine them, <\/em>
\nThey\u2019d court and escort them,<\/em>
\nBut none of them stayed more than two or three hours*.<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0(*As in prime time\u2026)<\/em><\/p>\n

Now back on the ranch where they all live as bachelors,
\nOne for the all and the all for the one,
\nTheir love is stronger than any one woman.
\nThey\u2019re father and brothers \u2013 and wives, they need none.
\nThey\u2019re out riding fences and outsmarting rustlers,
\nHorse breaking, roping and branding their steers,
\nStaring down death and defying disaster,
\nWith hardly a scar and a lot of warm beers.<\/p>\n

They are the Cartwrights, and this is their life,<\/em>
\nThe life that we\u2019ve all come to know.<\/em>
\nThis week they\u2019re upended,<\/em>
\nNext week they\u2019ll be mended,<\/em>
\nAnd back in the saddle and ready to go.<\/em><\/p>\n

(It\u2019s the same thing\u2026)<\/em><\/p>\n

Such is the fate of this dear TV family,
\nIn reruns and boredom to languish and fade,
\nExcept for the pens of some brave fanfic writers
\nReady and willing to come to their aid.
\nAlternate universe, unexplored plot lines,
\nWhat happened next or perhaps in between?
\nAt long last a wedding, or even a daughter;
\nMaybe a voyage to visit the queen?<\/p>\n

They are your Cartwrights, so bring your best worst!<\/em>
\nThey\u2019ll do whatever you write.<\/em>
\nYou can ambush or jail them,<\/em>
\nKidnap, impale them,<\/em>
\nTorment or shoot them if that\u2019s what you like.<\/em><\/p>\n

(Please don\u2019t kill them\u2026)<\/em><\/p>\n

Imagine the tales that are yet to be written \u2013
\nThe limit is only as high as the sky.
\nA bonanza of stories out on the horizon…<\/p>\n

Cartwrights forever \u2013 they never will die!<\/strong><\/p>\n
