He decided it was time for his boys to spend some time together, catching up and learning from each other. Adam was extremely proud of all his formal education at Back East U. Despite his Pa’s warning that Hoss and little, Little Joe had their own interests and talents, Adam sincerely hoped his younger brothers would be inspired by him to also pursue more education. Knowing that Adam sometimes let his education go to his head, Ben Cartwright knew there was no arguing with his stubborn eldest son. It would be best for his three boys to sort this out amongst themselves.

Adam made a long list of all the gear they would need for their trip and reviewed it with Hoss and little Little Joe. “We need grub, blanket rolls and a frying pan and a tent.”

The brothers saddled their horses and loaded up a pack horse with every thing they had on the list. Early in the morning, the brothers set out, and eventually, Adam decided it was time to make camp for the night.

The day was warm but the brothers knew once the sun went down, it would be cold after dark. They set up camp by the side of Lake Tahoe and put up a tent. After a fine dinner of roast rabbit, baked potatoes, and not-yet-invented s’mores, the brothers sat around the camp fire sharing tales. Joe told his eldest brother about how he had learned to rope and ride and shoot while Adam was away. Hoss caught Adam up on all the expansions on the Ponderosa. Adam was glad to brag about how much he had learned at Back East U. He was still bragging when they retired for the night in their tent.

Some hours later, Hoss woke up and nudged his younger brother. “Little Joe! Look!”

Joe gasped aloud. The boy and rolled over and awakened his eldest brother. “Adam, look up at the sky and tell me what you see.”

“I see millions and millions of stars, little Brother,” replied Adam.

“And what do you deduce from that?” Hoss asked. Adam had taught him that word the first day he was back from Back East U.

“Yeah!” Little Joe urged. “What do you deduce?” Hoss had taught him that word the second day after Adam came back from Back East U.

Adam pondered this for a minute. This was the moment he has been waiting for. His younger brothers had expanded their vocabulary to include the word “deduce”. He wanted to inspire his younger brothers to take their educations more seriously. “Well, astronomically, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets.”

“And?” Hoss says asking for more.

Adam smiled, figuring he was being very inspirational to his husky younger brother, Hoss. “And astrologically, I observe that Saturn is in Leo & Horologically, I deduce that the time is approximately a quarter past three. “

”Horologically?” Little Joe asked figuring that the word must have something to do with saloon girls and the rooms up over the saloon. “Adam, does that have to do with pretty girls and kissing?”

”No, Little Joe,” Adam explained. “Horology is the art or science of measuring time.”

“And you’ll learn all you need to learn about pretty girls and kissing in plenty of time,” Hoss added.

”Oh! Look up one more time and tell us more, Adam,” Joe said nudging Hoss.

“You sure are smart, Adam,” Hoss said “Look up. What else do you see?”

“Yeah, Adam. What do you see?” Joe echoed Hoss.

“Well,” Adam said gazing at the bright stars and the full moon. “Meteorologically, I suspect that we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. “

“Oh!” Hoss gasped. Adam smiled knowing that it was far better hunting in good weather than bad.

“And what else?” Joe urged. ”Look up!”

“Yeah, look up,” Hoss elbowed Little Joe.

“What else?” Adam was quite sure he had impressed his two younger brothers with all his the knowledge he had demonstrated. Pa would be proud of him for being a good example for his brothers and inspiring them to study harder and value some formal education. ”What else? Let’s me think. I learned an awful lot back east in college at Back East U.”

”Look up Adam,” Hoss urged. “What else do you see?”

” It’s not only about science…” Joe hinted.

“Theologically, I can see that God is all powerful, and that we are a small and insignificant part of the universe. “

Hoss sighed. “God knows what you cain’t see with your educated eyes, Adam.”

“Look up again. What does it tell you, Adam?” Little Joe knew just what Hoss was hoping Adam would say.

Adam was silent for a moment. He gazed up at the bright stars. “What else? What else?”

“Adam, you idiot!” Hoss shouted. “Someone has stolen our tent!”

*****End*****

Tags: tongue-in-cheek

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[23,4,8

post-15524","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-drama","category-humor","category-short-stories","wpcat-23-id","wpcat-4-id","wpcat-8-id
https://i0.wp.com/bonanzabrand.info/library/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/ARLE-e1497282889671.png?fit=570%2C416&ssl=1
["GET
