Naughty or Nice<\/strong><\/p>\n

Snow was falling all around, the\u00a0impressively large\u00a0tree would soon be\u00a0decorated , Christmas cookies would be\u00a0backed and all the presents would be\u00a0wrapped and hidden under beds.\u00a0It was early on morning and my father and I were enjoying a second cup of coffee while Hop Sing was clearing the table. My brothers Hoss and Joe had already left home for school. The last days before hollidays were too long for them.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Hop Sing, please, can you stop for a while, I\u2019d like to tell you something.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

Hop Sing stopped and came back to the table.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Let me share with you wonderful news. Something special is\u00a0about to be celebrated at the Ponderosa ranch.\u00a0There will be\u00a0a Christmas Wedding\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n

-Oh, Mistel Caltwlight, what a wondelful idea, Decembel\u00a0is\u00a0the\u00a0most wondelful time\u00a0of the yeal.\u00a0That will be a wondelful celeblation. Hop Sing is so happy, and conglatulation\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n

I was amused by Hop Sing\u2019s reaction, the little chinese man was\u00a0ecstatic.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*****<\/p>\n

I lifted my right hand, protected by gloves and waved my father goodbye.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0I go to town, right now, I\u00a0want\u00a0to\u00a0bring the invitation\u00bb.<\/p>\n

I had harnessed two horses and I was about to sit in the\u00a0sleigh,\u00a0I\u00a0cuddled myself\u00a0under warm blankets\u00a0and I left the ranch. The horses were trotting\u00a0shoulder to shoulder through the snow.\u00a0I loved so much the white, snowy landscape in its idyllic\u00a0and calm beauty.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*****A few hours letter, all the citizen in Virginia City had been given the same card with words written on it\u00a0:<\/p>\n

\u00abLet celebrate the magic of Christmas at the Ponderosa Ranch.\u00a0No representation.\u00a0You\u2019re cordialy invited to celebrate the\u00a0Winter Wedding\u00a0of Chrish Norman and\u00a0Adam Cartwright\u00bb.\u00a0My\u00a0warm-hearted\u00a0and\u00a0festive\u00a0message had\u00a0been a very pleasant surprise for everybody in town\u00a0and they all had answered, they would be there, they would share our\u00a0new happiness at the Ponderosa Ranch.\u00a0Our Cartwright parties were famous and for sure this one would be a very special one, this year an unique romantic atmosphere would warm the winter night.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0My father and Hop Sing\u00a0will welcome you with a warming glass of Winter Mulled Wine\u00a0and if you need assistance, just ask, Joe or Hoss will be pleased to drive you to the ranch. Now please, excuse me, I go back to the ranch, there\u2019s so much to be done. And Hop Sing\u00a0is waiting for the last little things I’ve bought in town today\u00a0\u00a0\u00bb, I told them with a big smile on my\u00a0face. Then I wrapped my\u00a0scarf around my\u00a0neck and buttoned my warm winter coat before leaving the house of Ned Patterson, the last citizen I had visited.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*****On Christmas Day at the ranch.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0One of my\u00a0hidden dreams\u00a0has always been\u00a0a\u00a0Christmas-time wedding. I\u2019ve always loved Christmas and its magic, since childhood in my family it has never gone away,\u00a0and now this is our day, my\u00a0day of\u00a0\u201cYES I DO\u201d with Nature in its winter dress,\u00a0it\u00a0doubles-up the charm\u00a0\u00bb. There were the words pronounced by my lovely\u00a0bride as she\u00a0appeared. As we were in the ranch, the people were expecting to see the bride coming down the stairs in a stunning wedding dress. It was almost like that, it did happen a little bit differently as I caught her from a flying trapeze, she was sitting on.\u00a0I gently caressed the veil, touching the delicate white flowers and the winter foliage captivated in her dark hair, then\u00a0I tenderly put my two hands on her tiny waist and lifted her from the wooden plank. I placed her on the ground and\u00a0I gently kissed her hand, before kissing her lips. Now that was a very special arrival.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

***** Chrish and I were a little bit nervous as we heard the preacher words, welcoming us and our family and friends.\u00a0He was talking about the union of our love sublimated by the message of that holly night and the birth of Jesus. Next to me there was my brother Hoss, uncomfortable in his suit and tie. For sure he would be the first to take it off, as soon as the celebration would be over. Now it was time for us to be asked to repeat the marriage vows.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes! Yes I do! I like Christmas! I love\u00a0you, Chris, I love\u00a0Christmas!\u201d<\/p>\n

Hearts of people were\u00a0warmed by\u00a0my\u00a0enthousiastic\u00a0declaration. Mistletoe had never been so romantic at this time of year. I kissed and rekissed the bride several time\u00a0; I was so happy and so much in love.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*****a few months later.\u00a0We were in our small livingroom of our new home.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0well, that\u2019s not easy\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0you bet, it\u2019s not\u00a0\u00bb, I said, totaly amazed by what I was seeing. Let me tell you that the situation was silly.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0what are you doing\u00a0?<\/p>\n

My sweet honey wife was surprising me each day and I had already seen a lot of fantasy from her. But what she was doing right now, in front of me was\u00a0beyond comprehension.\u00a0My best friends had told me, that I wouldn\u2019t have a normal bothering life with Chrish\u00a0Norman, as she was an amazing young talented lady. She was in front of me, but for the very first time, I couldn\u2019t kiss her. I was petrified, totally petrified. I couldn\u2019t kiss her lips, just because her lips were not reachable. She was standing in front of me upside down. She was walking on her hands, foot up in the air. I just could kiss her toes.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Adam honey, I just don\u2019t like walking barefoot on the cold pavement of the kitchen.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0So you went down those three\u00a0stairs on your hands, because you didn\u2019t find your slippers. Slippers which are under our bed. You remember the way you threw them yesterday evening\u00a0?\u00a0Honey, I should be angry at you. You could have broken your neck.\u00a0\u00bb I scolded her, trying to sound severe, knowing, I wouldn\u2019t be able to resist to her charming smile.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Adam, you know perfectly, that it\u2019s my job, since I was a little girl, I was walking on my hands, as my parents taught me. I\u2019m a circle little girl, don\u2019t you know\u00a0?\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

I was puzzled but unable to resist to that.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0May we have breakfast now, honey\u00a0?\u00a0\u00bb she asked with a laugh.<\/p>\n

I nodded and I asked her to come back to a more normal position, which she did without complaining.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Now I can kiss you good morning.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

I\u00a0lifted my agile young wife, and while I was holding her up in the air, I kissed the top of her nose. Then I put her in the settee and wrapped her in a warm blanket.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0I bring you one hot chocolate, honey\u00a0\u00bb, I said before disapearing into the kitchen.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0thank you Adam, I love you\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n

I was loving her too, oh yes, I loved her so much.<\/p>\n

*****\u00a0December had come back, one year after our so special wedding.\u00a0We were gathered\u00a0around in a circle with friends and family,\u00a0and Joe was about to tell Christmas stories.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Pa, Hoss, Adam, Chris, friends, laughter is the best gift anyone can give. These are my favorites. These funny Christmas stories will warm your heart and may even make your stomach hurt from laughing.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

Too late, I saw our father clearing his voice and giving my baby brother a light severe look\u00a0:<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Joseph, let me remind you that your sister-in-law is expecting a child, we don\u2019t want her to have stomach aches, do we\u00a0?\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Don\u2019t worry, Pa, I\u2019ll be fine, just let Joe tell his story\u00a0\u00bb, Chrish\u00a0replied.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0I\u00a0will be a\u00a0little lenient,\u00a0but not\u00a0very\u00a0; Joseph\u00a0; so be careful when you chose your story\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

\u00abYes Sir, I promise\u00a0\u00bb, my\u00a016 year old brother\u00a0answered before standing\u00a0up. He started.\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0Myra was going to the Christmas office party but needed a new party dress.\u00a0In the clothing store she asked, ‘May I try on that dress in the window, please?’ ‘Certainly not, madam,’ responded the salesgirl, ‘You’ll have to use the fitting room like everyone else.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

Joe eyed our\u00a0father as he finished his story and was happy to see that even Pa had burst into laughter.\u00a0Chrish had her hands on her belly and was laughing too. Everything was fine.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0A good one, Joseph\u00a0!\u00a0\u00bb our pa replied.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0My turn, now\u00a0\u00bb, I said. \u00ab\u00a0A true one,\u00a0now\u00a0a Cartwright Christmas story,\u00a0our favorite Christmas story.\u00a0It was coming up to Christmas and\u00a0do you remember\u00a0; Hoss, you\u00a0asked\u00a0Ma\u00a0if\u00a0you\u00a0could have a new\u00a0sleigh.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Oh yeah, I remember. She told me that\u00a0the best idea would be to write to Santa Claus. But\u00a0I, having just played a vital role in the school nativity play, said\u00a0I\u00a0would prefer to write to the baby Jesus.\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0Hoss continued before I added the next part of the story.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0So, Hoss\u00a0went to his room and\u00a0tried to write his letter\u00a0\u00bb.\u2019Dear Jesus, I have been a very good boy and would like to have a\u00a0beautiful sleigh\u00a0for Christmas.\u2019\u00a0and I…\u00a0\u00bb I couldn\u2019t finish my sentence as Hoss interrupted me.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0But\u00a0I\u00a0wasn’t very happy when\u00a0I\u00a0read it over. So\u00a0I\u00a0decided to try again and this time\u00a0I\u00a0wrote\u00a0‘Dear Jesus, I’m a good boy most of the time and would like a\u00a0beautiful sleigh\u00a0for Christmas.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Most of the time, that was the truth\u00a0\u00bb, our Pa\u00a0added with a funny smile on his face, which made my brother Hoss\u00a0blush.<\/p>\n

Hoss continued\u00a0:<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0With Adam\u2019s help, I tried another version\u00a0:\u00a0‘Dear Jesus, I could be a good boy if I tried hard and especially if I had a new\u00a0sleigh\u2019<\/p>\n

\u00abHey guys, stop with all the effects in your narration, I can\u2019t wait to hear the next part.\u00a0Ben, please, can you tell me the end of the story\u00a0?\u00a0\u00bb, she asked Ben with excitment. If you keep doing that, I\u2019ll be delivered with my child, and I won\u2019t know about the end of the story\u00a0\u00bb. So my father decided to\u00a0conclude the story\u00a0:<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0After a short time\u00a0my two sons\u00a0passed a house with a small statue of the Virgin Mary in the front garden,\u00a0they\u00a0crept in,\u00a0your dear husband\u00a0stuffed the statue under\u00a0his\u00a0coat, hurried home and hid it under the bed. Then\u00a0they\u00a0wrote this letter.\u00a0‘Dear Jesus, If you want to see your mother again, you’d better send me a new\u00a0sleigh.\u2019\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

I saw my wife putting\u00a0her fingers on her mouth,\u00a0she was shocked,\u00a0she couldn\u2019t believe, what she was hearing.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0No, Adam, Hoss, you didn\u2019t do that\u00a0? That was naughty. Ben, you let them do that\u00a0?\u00a0\u00bb she asked indignantly.<\/p>\n

\u00ab<\/em>Pa knew nothing about it. It was a private joke between us, Honey. And now, it\u2019s our favorite Christmas story\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0It\u2019s the truth, my sweet Chrish, Adam and Hoss just told me about this joke a few years before. I didn\u2019t know about it.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Don\u2019t we call it a lie by omission?\u00a0\u00bb. I heard Joe\u2019s asking suddenly.<\/p>\n

\u00abyeah, and\u00a0for good reasons\u00a0\u00bb, my brother and I both exclaimed.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0But Joe, let me remind you, that it was common at that time, Pa had told us about people doing that, he had shown us papers in Roy\u2019s office.\u00a0\u00bb, Hoss added.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0But you\u2019re right, for sure we would have been in big big trouble if Pa had known about it earlier.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

Then I opened my mouth and began to laugh full out\u00a0; joined by Hoss.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Now brother, you\u2019re gonna make your stomach hurt from laughing\u00a0\u00bb, Joe added seriously.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*****This sweet moment was concluded by one\u00a0marshmallow-topped hot chocolate, brought by Hop Sing, which kept us warm before we went to bed.<\/p>\n

Epilogue.<\/p>\n

Three months later I was given a wonderful spring present, as my sweet acrobat wife was delivered. And I was given a little girl.<\/p>\n
