his old home.\u00a0\u00a0Joe and his wife Karie had gotten married this past summer.\u00a0\u00a0They now lived in their own cabin on the Ponderosa.<\/p>\n<p>Joe found Pa sitting at his desk working on some papers.\u00a0\u00a0They greeted each other as Joe sat down beside his father.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat brings you here?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Pa smiled.<\/p>\n<p>Joe replied, \u201cChristmas gifts for Karie.\u00a0\u00a0I\u2019ve gotten a couple of nice things for her, but I want to give her something really special.\u00a0\u00a0It is our first Christmas together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight.\u00a0\u00a0Let me think about that.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Then Pa\u2019s dark eyes lit up.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cCome with me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joe followed Pa upstairs to his bedroom.\u00a0\u00a0He watched his father open a dresser drawer and take out a little wooden box that had white magnolias painted on it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was your mother\u2019s.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Pa handed the box to Joe.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cYou may have it if you\u2019d like.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joe answered, \u201cThank you, Pa.\u00a0\u00a0Of course I\u2019d like to have something that was my mama\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know.\u00a0\u00a0You\u2019re welcome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joe opened the box and saw a brooch laying inside.\u00a0\u00a0It was gold with a red rose.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI remember her wearing this on her cape,\u201d Joe said.<\/p>\n<p>Pa nodded.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cShe wore it on special occasions like Christmas and Easter, and to some parties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank you so much, Pa.\u00a0\u00a0This is really special.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re welcome, son.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>~~~~~<\/p>\n<p>It was late afternoon on Christmas Eve at Joe and Karie\u2019s cabin.\u00a0\u00a0They had a small decorated Christmas tree beside the fireplace.\u00a0\u00a0Underneath were several wrapped presents.\u00a0\u00a0Joe and Karie were planning to go to the annual Christmas Eve party that Pa held every year at the ranch house for friends and neighbors.<\/p>\n<p>Joe grabbed a certain small gift and handed it to Karie.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cHere.\u00a0\u00a0I would like for you to open this now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOkay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joe watched Karie slide off the red velvet ribbon and tear open the bright red wrapping paper to reveal the wooden box inside.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like the pretty box,\u201d Karie said just before she lifted the lid and saw the brooch inside.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cOh wow!\u00a0\u00a0That\u2019s beautiful!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was my mama\u2019s.\u00a0\u00a0I remember her wearing it.\u00a0\u00a0I hope you\u2019ll always enjoy it just like she did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh I will.\u00a0\u00a0I love it.\u00a0\u00a0Thank you, Joe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re welcome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then they hugged and kissed.<\/p>\n<p>That evening Karie wore the brooch on her cape to the party.\u00a0\u00a0Joe noticed Pa smiling in recognition.\u00a0\u00a0He felt proud to see his wife wearing Mama\u2019s brooch.\u00a0\u00a0He imagined Mama smiling from Heaven.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Character:\u00a0 Joseph Cartwright<\/p>\n<p>Gift:\u00a0 \u00a0Brooch<\/p>\n<p>Link to Bonanza Brand 2020 Advent Calendar &#8211;
