Chapter 1<\/span><\/h1>\n

Description: Joe jeopardizes his relationship with his sister by dating her teacher. Will she ever be able to forgive him? Will he ever be able to gain her trust back?<\/span><\/p>\n

It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The air was clear and fresh. The atmosphere was at a perfect temperature. There was a small breeze whistling through the green leaves on the trees and the grass in the meadow.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe Cartwright was lying on the grass in his favorite place on the Ponderosa with the new substitute teacher Charlotte Browney who was filling in for Miss. Jones who took a vacation.<\/span><\/p>\n

She and Joe had been secretly dating behind Joe\u2019s thirteen year old sister Amelia\u2019s back. He felt guilty for not telling her but he felt as though he was protecting her from the embarrassment and teasing she\u2019ll endure at school.<\/span><\/p>\n

He knew that he should tell her but was afraid of hurting her. While he was contemplating all of that Charlotte turns to him and could see that he was thinking about something.<\/span><\/p>\n

She puts her hand on his. Joe turns to her and gives her a small smile but she could see that Joe was worried about something.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat were you thinking about?\u201d she asked curiously. \u201cAbout how nice it is here especially with a pretty girl like you\u201d flattered Joe with a charming smile.<\/span><\/p>\n

Charlotte blushes \u201cJoe Cartwright you are a charmer\u201d. They lean over to each other and started to kiss intimately and passionately as their hands explored the other\u2019s body.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unbeknownst to them while they were lustfully making love a rider on a horse was galloping on the road when they saw them.<\/span><\/p>\n

The rider was a heart broken Amelia. She couldn\u2019t believe what she was seeing. She couldn\u2019t fathom that her brother her best friend the one person who she would go to with anything was dating her teacher. She was devastated that he didn\u2019t tell her about the love affair.<\/span><\/p>\n

She convinces herself that Joe didn\u2019t care about her anymore. Having seen enough a teary eye Amelia rides away feeling betrayed and hurt beyond repair.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amelia rides in the yard recklessly. Adam saw her and was worry that she would get hurt unknowingly that she was already hurt more than a falling off a horse would do.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAMELIA ROSE CARTWRIGHT!\u00a0 You know better than to ride in\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 the yard like that\u201d hissed Adam worriedly. Amelia mounts off her horse and looks at her brother tears were streaming down her moist cheeks.<\/span><\/p>\n

Adam saw the tears and immediately kneels down in front of her concern. \u201cShortcake baby what\u2019s the matter? Did something happen?\u201d asked Adam in despair to see his sister crying.<\/span><\/p>\n

Adam caresses her cheek and wipes a tear with his thumb.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re not hurt are ya?\u201d asked Adam rolling up the sleeves of her dress to see if there were any scratches or injuries on her arms.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNot physically Adam\u201d Amelia managed to say between sobbing breaths. Adam looks at her worriedly. \u201cWhat do you mean by that sweetheart?\u201d asked Adam.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amelia considers telling Adam what she saw but she didn\u2019t want him to go off on Joe so she decides not to. She hated to see her brothers fight.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s nothing I\u2019m ok Adam\u201d assured Amelia trying to smile. \u201cAre you sure?\u201d asked Adam uncertainly. \u201cYeah\u201d said Amelia with a nod.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOk but if you need to talk…\u201d offered Adam. Amelia throws her arms around her brother and hugs him. \u201cI love you Adam\u201d she sobbed. \u201cI love you too honey\u201d said Adam uncertain why she was crying.<\/span><\/p>\n

Adam pulls away from her and kisses her on the cheek. Little Joe rides in the yard. \u201cHey what\u2019s going on?\u201d asked Joe. Amelia looks at him and runs in the house as though she had seen the devil.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe look confuse at Adam who was equally confuse. Both had never seen their sister act like that and it worried them. \u201cWhat\u2019s with her?\u201d asked Joe.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was hoping you tell me\u201d said Adam. \u201cWas she ok when she came home?\u201d asked Joe. \u201cPhysically but she was extremely devastated about something. She was crying\u201d informed Adam.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDid she say anything as to why she was crying?\u201d asked Joe. \u201cNope\u201d said Adam shaking his head no. Joe puts his hands on his hips. He was concern for his sister and why she was devastated.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI wonder what\u2019s bothering her\u201d said Joe. \u201cI don\u2019t know but I wouldn\u2019t worry about it. You know how girls are at that age\u201d said Adam. \u201cYeah\u201d said Joe nodding his head.<\/span><\/p>\n

Adam puts an arm around his brother and they look at each other with a smile as they walk to the house.<\/span><\/p>\n

That night at dinner Amelia was moving the food around her plate. Ben looks at the boys who were just as worried as he was. Adam had told him how Amelia acted when she came home and how concern he was when he saw her riding her horse recklessly.<\/span><\/p>\n

Both knew that that wasn\u2019t like Amelia at all. She was very responsible when it came to her horse and what a careful rider she was Ben then turns to his daughter.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIs something bothering you darling?\u201d asked Ben. Amelia looks up from her plate and at her father. \u201cI\u2019m fine Pa just not very hungry\u201d said Amelia. Joe looks at her concern.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re not feeling ill are ya?\u201d asked Joe concern. Amelia glares at him as though he slapped her in the face. \u201cWhat do you care? We both know that you don\u2019t care about me and you never have so don\u2019t even act as though you do. All you care about is yourself\u201d yelled Amelia with hot watery eyes. She gets up from the table and runs up the stairs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hoss, Adam and Ben look at each other then at Joe who was just as stunned as they were. \u201cJoseph what was that all about?\u201d asked Ben. Joe shrugs his shoulders.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGosh Pa I\u2019m not sure. Maybe I should go talk to her\u201d said Joe. He was hurt that his sister was upset with him even more so when he didn\u2019t know why.<\/span><\/p>\n

He hated quarreling with his sister and hope that whatever he did he can fix. \u201cGood luck little brother. With the mood she\u2019s in you be lucky if she lets you in her room\u201d said Hoss.<\/span><\/p>\n

He felt bad that his brother was on the receiving end of Amelia\u2019s anger but also felt lucky that it wasn\u2019t him. Adam felt the same way. He hoped that whatever was going on would be resolved; he hated to see his siblings feuding.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Chapter 2<\/span><\/h1>\n

Joe gets up and walks up the stairs to his sister\u2019s room. Joe knocks on the door. \u201cAmelia can I come in?\u201d asked Joe. There was no response.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPlease sweetheart I just want to talk\u201d pleaded Joe. He really wanted to know why she was angry with him and he wanted to fix it.<\/span><\/p>\n

He opens the door and finds his sister lying on top of her bed crying into her pillow. Joe quietly sits beside her and touches her arm comfortingly. Amelia feeling someone touching her lifts up her heard and turns to see her brother.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGet Out!\u201d shouted Amelia full of furry. \u201cNot until you tell me why you\u2019re mad at me. Was it something I did?\u201d asked Joe confused.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amelia looks at him dumbfounded and starts to cry again. She was hurt that he didn\u2019t know what he did and was hurt even more thinking that Joe didn\u2019t care that he made love to her teacher had hurt her more than words can say.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe puts his arm around her and tries again to comfort her. Amelia forcibly pushes his arm away. \u201cGO AWAY JOE, LEAVE ME ALONE! I WANT TO BE LEFT ALONE\u201d yelled Amelia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe was hurt that his sister was pushing him away but he was determined to find out why. \u201cDON\u2019T YOU UNDERSTAND ENGLISH? I SAID GET OUT! I HATE YOU! AND I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU FOR BETRAYING ME! NOW GET OUT!\u201d\u00a0she hollered on the top of her lungs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe had tears in his eyes. Never had he before seen his sister so angry and hurt. \u201cAmelia…please…talk to me. I love you…and I want to fix this…if I can. Please I love you…I….love you so much. Just please let me fix this\u201d pleaded Joe tears dripping down his cheeks.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a little too late for that. Just go away\u201d said Amelia coldly without an emotion as she turns back and lays her head on her pillow.<\/span><\/p>\n

Feeling defeated Joe gets up and walks out of the room sadly. He walks down the stairs trying to hide the hurt he was feeling from showing on his tear stained face.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ben walks over to him but Joe walks past him. Ben takes hold of Joe\u2019s arm and turns his around. He saw the hurt look and could see that his son had been crying.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSon, what happen?\u201d asked Ben full of concern. He didn\u2019t like to see his children fighting and hurting each other. Joe looks at his father again tears watering his eyes.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cShe hates me Pa. she feels as though I betrayed her but she wouldn\u2019t tell me why\u201d said Joe. \u201cDo you know why?\u201d asked Ben.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe shakes his head \u201cI don\u2019t know Pa I never seen her so upset before and I can\u2019t think of anything that I did that would hurt her so deeply. I would never hurt her intentionally\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ben puts a reassuring hand on his son\u2019s shoulder. \u201cOf course you wouldn\u2019t never intentionally but there is a possibility that you did hurt her without realizing it\u201d explained Ben.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhatever it is Joe I\u2019m sure she didn\u2019t mean what she said to ya\u201d assured Hoss. \u201cYeah knowing that little sister of ours she could be making a big deal out of nothing. I\u2019m sure whatever it is it can\u2019t be as bad as she\u2019s making it out to be\u201d added Adam.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe smiled at his brother appreciatively.\u00a0 \u201cWhat am I suppose to do, Pa?\u00a0 She<\/span><\/p>\n

won\u2019t speak to me let alone look at me without crying\u201d said Joe. \u201cGive her some time son I\u2019m sure whatever it is it isn\u2019t as bad as it seems\u201d persuaded Ben hopingly.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI hope so Pa\u201d said Joe praying that his sister would talk to him. He hated it when he and his sister were on opposing ends of an argument. He wanted so badly to talk to Amelia and sort everything out.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amelia was his best friend aside from Adam and Hoss. He loved his sister and the special relationship they shared. He\u2019ll give anything to have his sister not being angry with him.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe walks out of the house and out to the barn. Ben, Adam, and Hoss looked at each other worriedly. They knew that it was very rare for Amelia and Joe to fight and hoped it wasn\u2019t as bad as what it was becoming to be. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Chapter 3<\/span><\/h1>\n

The next day at lunch a girl name Rachel Conaway who was the class snob who loved to taunt Amelia. Rachel walks over to where Amelia was sitting.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m surprise a Cartwright would sink this low\u201d mocked Rachel coldly. Amelia looks at her annoyed. \u201cWhat are you talking about?\u201d demanded Amelia.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs if you don\u2019t know the only reason why Little Joe is dating our teacher is so you\u2019ll get \u2018special privileges\u2019. Typical for a Cartwright having to have higher privileges than everyone else\u201d said Rachel.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amelia gets up. \u201cI don\u2019t know what you are talking about. I\u2019m not the reason Joe is or isn\u2019t dating our teacher and where did you hear that from?\u201d she asked.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhy it\u2019s the latest rumor going around town. Everyone is talking about them and most of them think that you set them up\u201d taunted Rachel.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHow did it get around town?\u201d asked Amelia. \u201cJoe told some people around town. Why didn\u2019t he tell you?\u201d asked Rachel loving every minute of tormenting Amelia.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNo he didn\u2019t\u201d stated Amelia getting angry not only at Rachel but at Joe too. \u201cWell it shows how much that miserable excuse of a brother cares about you. You Cartwright\u2019s are nothing more than a waste of space\u201d mocked Rachel.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amelia losing her temper clinches her hand into a fist and punches Rachel hard in the mouth. Rachel falls in the dirt. \u201cAnd your mouth is so big Rachel Conaway it\u2019s a waste of air\u201d said Amelia confidently.<\/span><\/p>\n

Miss Browney who had seen the fight walks directly over to the girls as did Amelia\u2019s best friend Emily. \u201cAmelia Cartwright apologized to Rachel\u201d demanded the teacher who was appalled that Amelia had hit someone.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sorry\u201d muttered Amelia without any emotion. \u201cAmelia go back to the classroom and you and I will have a long talk after class\u201d said Miss Browney sternly.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amelia grabs the rest of her stuff and walks toward the school house. \u201cRachel dear you better get your lip check out with Doc Martin\u201d said Miss Browney.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rachel gets up from the ground and walks toward the Doc\u2019s office. Emily looks over at the teacher. \u201cPlease don\u2019t be too hard on Amelia ma\u2019am. She hasn\u2019t been herself. She hasn\u2019t been talking to Joe and it\u2019s been killing both of them\u201d explained Emily.<\/span><\/p>\n

She didn\u2019t want to see her best friend getting in trouble. She knew that Amelia was hurting and didn\u2019t mean to hit Rachel even if she had it coming.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhy isn\u2019t Amelia talking to Joe?\u201d asked the curious teacher. \u201cI don\u2019t know ma\u2019am\u201d said Emily with a shrugged.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI understand Emily thank you for telling me. Can you please ride out to the Ponderosa after school and let the Cartwright\u2019s know that Amelia is being held after?\u201d asked the teacher.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYes Ma\u2019am\u201d said Emily obediently as they walk to the school. Once school was let out Emily rides out to the Ponderosa to find Joe grooming his horse.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHey Emily what brings you out this way?\u201d asked Joe cheerfully. \u201cAmelia got in a fight at school\u201d informed Emily. \u201cA fight what happened? Did she get hurt?\u201d asked Joe concern.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNo she\u2019s fine she gave Rachel Conaway a fat lip. Apparently she was giving Amelia a hard time about something I ain\u2019t sure of\u201d said Emily. \u201cThanks for coming out here to tell me\u201d said Joe.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cJoe whatever she is mad at you about I\u2019m sure she\u2019ll come around about it eventually. Whatever you did to make her mad I\u2019m sure it wasn\u2019t intentional. Amelia can\u2019t stay mad at you for a long period of time\u201d assured Emily. \u201cI hope so\u201d said Joe hopingly.<\/span><\/p>\n

Emily smiles and rides away. Moments later Joe walks in the school house to find Charlotte sitting in front of Amelia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Charlotte looks up to see a concern Joe in the doorway with his hat in his hands. \u201cI\u2019ll be right back Amelia\u201d she said. She then walks over to entrance of the school.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amelia turns her head to see that the teacher was going to talk to Joe. Joe gives her a small wave but she turns her head and ignores him.<\/span><\/p>\n

Charlotte and Joe walked outside. \u201cWhat happen?\u201d asked Joe. \u201cI\u2019m not sure Amelia won\u2019t talk to me. She either cries or doesn\u2019t do anything. I\u2019m worry about her Joe this doesn\u2019t seem like her at all\u201d said Charlotte worriedly.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re worry to. Last thing she said to me was that she hated me. She cries all the time at home and when I try to comfort her but she just pushes me away\u201d said Joe.<\/span><\/p>\n

Charlotte caresses Joe\u2019s arm comfortingly \u201cThis is really bothering you isn\u2019t it?\u201d she asked.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhy shouldn\u2019t it be? She\u2019s my baby sister and she\u2019s in pain and there is nothing I can do to help her without her saying she hates me and I don\u2019t know why\u201d said Joe helplessly worried his lip quivering and his voice cracking full of emotion.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI better get her home my Pa isn\u2019t gonna be happy when he hears about the fight\u201d said Joe dreading to tell his father.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGood luck and I\u2019m sure everything is gonna work out between you two. I know how much she loves you and I\u2019m sure whatever this is won\u2019t last long\u201d assured Charlotte. \u201cI hope so\u201d said Joe.<\/span><\/p>\n

Charlotte kisses him. \u201cI love you\u201d she said. \u201cI love you too\u201d said Joe. He kisses her again before walking inside the school house.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Chapter 4<\/span><\/h1>\n

\u201cCome one Amelia let\u2019s go home\u201d said Joe. Amelia gets up and walks past him and out the door. Joe looks at Charlotte then walks after his sister.<\/span><\/p>\n

They rode to the ranch in silence. They rode in the yard and Amelia mounts off her horse. Joe mounts off his and walks after her trying to stop her from walking away from him.<\/span><\/p>\n

He takes her arm and turns her around to face him. \u201cWhat happen at school? Why did you punch Rachel?\u201d asked Joe. Amelia pulls her arm back.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAmelia please talk to me. I can\u2019t stand it when you\u2019re mad at me and I\u2019m sure you have a really good reason to be. Please sweetheart what did I do that hurt you so badly?\u201d asked Joe with pleading eyes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amelia looks at him not being able to control her anger any longer. \u201cWHY DID YOU TELL EVERYONE IN TOWN ABOUT YOU AND MY TEACHER AND NOT ME?\u201d asked Amelia angry.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe looks at her stunned. He had no idea that she was angry about him and her teacher. He had no idea that she knew and felt guilty for not telling her.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAmelia no one knows about me and your teacher. Wait how did you know about us?\u201d asked Joe confused.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI SAW YOU AND HER OUT BY THE LAKE\u201d\u00a0said Amelia. Joe\u2019s jaw drops shocked. He knew what she had seen and it fed his guilt even more.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAmelia I am so sorry\u201d said Joe full of remorse.\u00a0\u201cIT\u2019S TOO LATE FOR YOU TO BE SORRY! YOU SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME INSTEAD OF GOING BEHIND MY BACK! I NEVER IMAGINE YOU COULD BE SO COLD AS TO SNEAK AROUND SLEEPING WITH MY TEACHER HOPING THAT I\u2019LL NEVER FIND OUT\u201d yelled Amelia.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTHEN I COME TO FIND OUT THAT EVERYONE KNEW EXCEPT FOR ME! DAMN IT JOE I\u2019M YOUR SISTER! WE TELL EACH OTHER EVERYTHING REMEMBER\u201d\u00a0she yelled on the verge of crying.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAmelia\u201d said Joe helplessly as he watch and listen to her falling completely apart. He would give anything to take away his sister\u2019s pain.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI THOUGHT I COULD TRUST YOU BUT CLEARLY THAT WAS A MISTAKE! FOR THE PAST THIRTEEN YEARS YOU TOLD ME OVER AND OVER ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU LOVE ME THAT YOU WOULD NEVER EVER INTENTIONALLY HURT ME THEN YOU TURN AROUND AND DECIDED \u2018WHAT THE HELL SINCE I GOT HER BELIEING IN THAT GARBABGE WHY DON\u2019T I BREAK EVERY PROMISE I MADE TO HER SINCE SHE WAS A BABY AND DATE HER TEACHER. I MEAN IT\u2019S NOT LIKE SHE WILL EVER FIND OUT\u2019!\u201d cried Amelia. Joe had tears in his eyes.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t like that\u201d Joe managed to chocked out full of emotion as he felt a lump in his throat.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHow could you do this to me Joe? You\u2019re my brother my best friend why did you do this to me? I thought you love me you told me you love me but that was a lie wasn\u2019t it? You love your new girlfriend more than your own sister your flesh and your blood otherwise you would have told me before you started dating her or ask me about it instead of\u00a0going behind my back!\u201d sobbed Amelia pools of tears rolling down her cheeks.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so sorry Amelia I never meant to hurt you honest. I just didn\u2019t want you to get hurt that\u2019s why I never told you. I was wrong in not telling you and I\u2019m really sorry but I was only trying to protect you from this heartache and getting pick on at school\u201d said Joe as he walks over to her and tries to comfort her.<\/span><\/p>\n

She pushes him away and starts punching him. \u201cTHIS IS ENTIRELY YOUR FAULT!\u201d she cried. Joe takes hold of her wrists and restrains her.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThanks to you everyone at school thinks that I ask you to date Miss Browney so I\u2019ll get special privileges.\u00a0I HATE YOU AND YOU\u2019RE NO LONGER MY BROTHER!\u201d she hollered.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe lets her go completely in shock for what she had said. A tear rolls down his cheek as he looks at his sister.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ben, Hoss and Adam walk outside to see what all the commotion was. They saw Joe and a devastated Amelia both crying and knew something wasn\u2019t right.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat the heck is going on here?\u201d asked Ben. \u201cJoe is dating Miss Browney and everyone in town knew about it except for me\u201d said a very hurt Amelia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ben looks at his son in disbelief. Adam and Hoss look at each other before looking at their younger brother. Both of them sympathized for their younger brother for they both know Joe wouldn\u2019t hurt their sister like that but they were both angry that Joe had done something like that to their sister.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPa I can explain\u201d said Joe nervously. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing to explain\u00a0YOU BETRADED ME!\u201d\u00a0snapped Amelia still furious.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHold on young lady. I would like to know why you\u2019re home from school late\u201d said Ben staring directly at his daughter.<\/span><\/p>\n

Knowing that she couldn\u2019t lie Amelia takes a deep breath \u201cI got in a fight\u201d. Ben and the boys were surprise. \u201cWith who?\u201d asked Adam even though he had a pretty good idea who it was. \u201cRachel Conaway\u201d said Amelia.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat did you two fight about?\u201d asked Hoss \u201cRachel was picking on me about Joe and Miss Browney. She told me that Joe had told everyone in town. She kept teasing me about it and accuse me of setting Joe up with Miss Browney so I can get special privileges\u201d said Amelia fuming.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sorry about that Amelia but that still doesn\u2019t justify you fighting. I don\u2019t want a daughter of mine fighting around like her brothers\u201d said Ben sternly.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYes sir. I\u2019m sorry Pa I was so hurt and angry about what Joe did that I wasn\u2019t thinking about what I was doing\u201d said Amelia.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSee to it that it doesn\u2019t happen again\u201d said Ben. \u201cDon\u2019t worry Pa it won\u2019t happen again I promise\u201d said Amelia sincerely.<\/span><\/p>\n

She turns to Joe and her anger starts to come back. \u201cI WISH YOU WERE DEAD! BECAUSE AS FAR AS I\u2019M CONCERN YOU\u2019RE DEAD TO ME JUST LIKE OUT RELATIONSHIP!\u201d yelled Amelia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Everyone especially Joe and Ben were shocked. \u201cAMELIA ROSE CARTWRIGHT\u00a0I don\u2019t like that kind of talk young lady and you know I don\u2019t allow it. Now apologize to your brother\u201d scolded Ben angry.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI rather be on my death bed\u201d said Amelia coldly looking back at Joe before she storms to the house and slams the door behind her.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe\u2019s lips start to tremble as tears fell down his cheeks.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chapter 5<\/span><\/h1>\n

Joe was shatter by the guilt and pain and starts to sob unashamedly. \u201cI\u2019m so sorry Pa I never meant to hurt her. I know it may seem like a lie but I love Amelia very much and it never was my intention to hurt her. I just didn\u2019t want to hurt her I tried to avoid it but she is hurt because of me and she hates me\u201d said Joe sadly. \u201cAnd I hate myself too\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t be so hard on yourself son. You made a mistake but never doubt that she won\u2019t forgive you or that she doesn\u2019t love you. Just give her some time to cool off\u201d said Ben.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPa\u2019s right Joe Amelia didn\u2019t mean what she said\u201d assured Hoss. \u201cNo Hoss she meant every word and I can\u2019t say that I blame her. If I were her I would hate me too\u201d Joe said full of guilt as he sulked over to the barn.<\/span><\/p>\n

His father and brothers look at each other worriedly. They hope that the two most stubborn Cartwright\u2019s would work things out and for things to go back to normal.<\/span><\/p>\n

They each couldn\u2019t stand to see their love ones hurting but they knew that they need to work things out for themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n

The next day was hell for Amelia because Rachel and some of the other girls were still teasing her about Joe and Miss Browney and that she should be nice to the teacher since she might be her new sister in law.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amelia couldn\u2019t handle the teasing and blamed Joe for it. At lunch time Amelia was sitting on the ground underneath her favorite oak tree when Emily walks over to her.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHey Mia mind if I sit with ya?\u201d asked Emily. She felt sorry that her best friend was being tease at and that she was fighting with her brother who she loved so much.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf you sit with me they\u2019re gonna tease you too\u201d stated Amelia. \u201cI don\u2019t care\u201d said Emily sitting next to her.<\/span><\/p>\n

She looks at her friend and could tell how unhappy she was. Amelia looks at her friend\u2019s concern stare. \u201cI don\u2019t know what\u2019s worst being teased or avoiding my brother\u201d said Amelia sadly.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHave you tried talking to him?\u201d asked Emily. \u201cNo because every time I see him I get angrier with him. I said something\u2019s to him that I can\u2019t take back\u201d said Amelia full of guilt.<\/span><\/p>\n

She hated fighting with her brother and she wanted more than anything to make things right with him but she couldn\u2019t because she was so hurt by what he did.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCome on it probably isn\u2019t that bad. What did you say to him?\u201d asked Emily curiously. She knew that Little Joe and Amelia rarely spat but when they did it really hurt them.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI told him that I hated him. That he was no longer my brother. I also told him that I wish he was dead and that he was dead to me\u201d sobbed Amelia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Emily touches Amelia\u2019s arm comfortingly. \u201cJoe knows that you didn\u2019t mean it and that you were just hurt by what he did. I\u2019m sure he would forgive you for what you said\u201d persuaded Emily.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI doubt it. Why did I have to overreact? Why do I feel as though I lost my best friend?\u201d asked Amelia. \u201cOne you overreacted because you felt betrayed that Joe didn\u2019t tell you. And two you feel as though you lost your best friend because you did. I\u2019ve seen how close you and Joe are. You\u2019re each other\u2019s best friend; the one person you trust more than anyone else\u201d said Emily understandingly.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat if Joe and I don\u2019t fix this? What if we won\u2019t have the same relationship as we did before?\u201d asked Amelia.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI guess you won\u2019t know unless you talk to him. Besides you guys had spats before and always manage to work things out\u201d said Emily.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYeah I know but it\u2019s different this time\u201d said Amelia. \u201cLook Mia I can\u2019t tell you that you would have the same relationship with Joe but after all of this maybe you both would learn something about trust and how much you love each other. You still love Joe don\u2019t you?\u201d said Emily.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amelia looks at her friend \u201cOf course I still love Joe its hard not to when he has been there for me since I was born\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I\u2019m sure it\u2019s the same for Joe. There is no doubt in my mind that he loves you and that he was only trying to protect you. You\u2019re very lucky to have a brother like Joe and you\u2019re even twice as lucky to have Adam and Hoss as brothers\u201d said Emily.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI guess you\u2019re right\u201d Amelia said as she considered what her friend told her.<\/span><\/p>\n

After school that day Amelia rides directly home and walks upstairs to her bedroom. Ben was walking in the living room from the kitchen when he saw his daughter running up the stairs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Concern Ben hurries after her to find her lying across her bed shedding tears. Ben walks over to her and takes her into his arms and comforts her.<\/span><\/p>\n

He then pulls away from her and looks at her. \u201cThe other kids were teasing you again?\u201d asked Ben. Amelia nods her head. \u201cDon\u2019t worry baby they\u2019ll forget about it and move on to something else\u201d assured Ben.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI hope so Pa but I still don\u2019t understand why Joe would do something like that to me\u201d said Amelia confused. \u201cLittle Joe never meant to hurt you. Do you know what he told me?\u201d asked Ben. Amelia looks at him and shakes her head.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe told me that he loved you so much that he didn\u2019t want to break your heart\u201d said Ben. \u201cHe said that?\u201d asked Amelia surprised. \u201cYes he did\u201d replied Ben.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really sorry for the things I said to him Pa. I never meant a word honest\u201d said Amelia. \u201cI know you didn\u2019t but your brother was really hurt by what you said. He was so hurt he cried\u201d Ben said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe did?\u201d asked Amelia surprised. Ben nods his head.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhere is Joe?\u201d asked Amelia curiously. \u201cHe should be doing his chores with your brothers\u201d said Ben. \u201cI better go apologize to him\u201d said Amelia.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cJust a minute, I want you to understand that your brother loves you so much and regrets what happen. I understand your anger and I understand that you think that Joe could\u2019ve handled this better and I agree with you\u201d said Ben. \u201cBut all he could think about was how much this was gonna hurt you and he didn\u2019t want that\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI know Pa\u201d assured Amelia now understanding why Joe did what he did. He didn\u2019t do it to hurt her he just didn\u2019t know how to tell her without hurting her.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now that she understood her brother\u2019s motives Amelia felt guilty for how she handled it and how she acted toward him.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amelia gets up hugs and kisses her father before walking out of the room.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chapter 6<\/span><\/h1>\n

Amelia hurries out of the house and sees Joe walking out of the barn.<\/span><\/p>\n

She runs over to him and hugs him. Joe was surprise by the gesture and wonders what cause the sudden change in his sister\u2019s attitude.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe returns the hug and holds her tightly in his arms. He miss being able to hold her and was glad that he was able to do it again.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe pulls away from her after holding her for a while. Amelia looks up at her brother and could tell something was bothering him.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou alright Joe?\u201d she asked concern. \u201cWhat do you care?\u201d asked Joe harshly.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amelia looks at him surprise by his harsh tone but she knew that she had it coming to her.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBecause you\u2019re my brother and I care about you\u201d she answered hoping that he would let her apologize to him.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sorry I\u2019m just in a bad mood\u201d said Joe apologetically sincere. They walk over to the porch and sat down on the steps.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBecause of me?\u201d asked Amelia. Joe looks at her and shakes his head. \u201cNo not because of you. I broke up with your teacher\u201d said Joe.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amelia was aghast and felt ashamed for the way she acted and blames herself for ruining her brother\u2019s happiness.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is all my fault\u201d said Amelia full of guilt. Joe looks at her and lifts her chin up so she can look at him.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt isn\u2019t your fault it\u2019s mine\u201d reassured Joe. \u201cHow come you broke up with her I thought you loved her?\u201d asked Amelia confused.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI do love her but it wasn\u2019t worth what I was losing\u201d said Joe smiling when he saw how confuse his sister was.<\/span><\/p>\n

He takes is sister\u2019s hand in his. \u201cMy fling with your teacher was hurting what you and I have and I didn\u2019t want it to fall apart because I was a jerk and a horrible big brother\u201d said Joe.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re not a horrible brother Joe. I am a horrible sister. I\u2019m so sorry for everything\u201d said Amelia in tears.<\/span><\/p>\n

She touches her brother\u2019s hand. \u201cYou\u2019re my brother and you\u2019ll always be. I don\u2019t hate you and I could never hate you. I love you Little Joe\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe smiles as he listens to his sister apologizing to him.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t wish that you were dead and I\u2019m really sorry for saying that\u201d. Amelia breaks down into heavy sobs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe opens his arms out to her. \u201cCome here\u201d he said comfortingly. Amelia hugs him and cries on his shoulder.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe strokes her hair and rubs her back.\u00a0 \u201cHey it\u2019s alright…Shh…Now\u201d he consoled.<\/span><\/p>\n

Once he felt her relax he pulls away from her taking both of her hands in his.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very sorry for hurting you the way I did and I\u2019m sorry for betraying your trust. I don\u2019t blame you for being angry with me\u201d said Joe full of emotion as tears watered his eyes.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to know that nothing is more important to me than our special bond. I love you more than anything. You\u2019re the most important girl in my life besides my mother and I\u2019m so sorry you thought otherwise\u201d he choked tears dripping down his cheeks.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI have no excuse for what I did but I promise you I\u2019m gonna do my best to never hurt you like that again alright\u201d he said in a shaky voice.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amelia nods her head and Joe hugs her. \u201cI love you\u201d he said full of emotion. \u201cI love you too\u201d said Amelia. Both were relieve that they worked things out.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ben, Hoss and Adam were standing a few feet away listening to the conversation and walks over to them. \u201cEverything alright?\u201d asked Ben curiously.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe and Amelia got up and turn to face them. \u201cEverything\u2019s great Pa! I got my sister back\u201d said Joe happily. \u201cAnd I got my brother back\u201d added Amelia.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very relieved to hear it\u201d said Ben beaming with happiness and love. \u201cMaybe now everything would go back to normal around here\u201d teased Adam happy to see his brother and sister getting along again.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll be careful about that Adam with these two around it\u2019s anything but normal\u201d teased Hoss. They all laugh and the three of them walk away giving Joe and Amelia some space.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s not let this happen again\u201d said Amelia. Joe nods his head in agreement. \u201cWhy don\u2019t we go fishing tomorrow just the two of us\u201d said Joe.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI would like that\u201d said Amelia. Joe smiles and was about to walk away when Amelia stops him.<\/span><\/p>\n

He turns back around to face her. \u201cI just wanted you to know that I really am sorry for everything\u201d she said sheepishly.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI know that sweetheart. I don\u2019t want you to feel guilty about anything everything\u2019s fine between us\u201d assured Joe.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amelia smiles relieved and walks over to him. \u201cI love you\u201d she said. \u201cI love you too\u201d Joe said as he leans over and kisses her on the cheek.<\/span><\/p>\n

Weeks past and things had gone back to normal (whatever normal is) on the Ponderosa.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe and Amelia made amends and their relationship blossom even though it wasn\u2019t exactly like it was before but both were glad at where it was.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe slowly managed to gain back his sister\u2019s trust and Amelia managed to never doubt her brother\u2019s love for her.<\/span><\/p>\n

They had learned about trust and just how much they loved each other and never take fragrant it the special relationship they shared. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And both Cartwright\u2019s couldn\u2019t be happier.<\/span><\/p>\n
