I penned this a few years ago, imagining Ben’s reaction to Adam’s departure and the uncertainty of his return.<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n THE RIVER<\/strong><\/p>\n I watch you from the shore today My head held high Yet here I stand Returning your wave In trying to hold you No one can say Sailing at the mercy of time A view from the riverbank, the one left behind. \nQuenching what I long to say<\/p>\n
\nA promise made
\nThough I yearn to break it
\nAnd beg you to stay
\nWith tears as this river
\nThat bears you away<\/p>\n
\nAnd manage a smile
\nEyes clear and dry
\nThough I weep inside
\nI am no match
\nFor so strong a tide<\/p>\n
\nAs you round the bend
\nMy lips breathe farewell
\nWith barely a sound
\nLike Autumn’s last leaf
\nAdrift to the ground<\/p>\n
\nFor love\u2019s sake, though blind
\nA bittersweet truth
\nI’ve late come to know
