Posted in recognition of World Poetry Day 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Rating G, 160 words<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>I penned this a few years ago, imagining Ben&#8217;s reaction to Adam&#8217;s departure and the uncertainty of his return.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE RIVER<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I watch you from the shore today<br \/>\nQuenching what I long to say<\/p>\n<p>My head held high<br \/>\nA promise made<br \/>\nThough I yearn to break it<br \/>\nAnd beg you to stay<br \/>\nWith tears as this river<br \/>\nThat bears you away<\/p>\n<p>Yet here I stand<br \/>\nAnd manage a smile<br \/>\nEyes clear and dry<br \/>\nThough I weep inside<br \/>\nI am no match<br \/>\nFor so strong a tide<\/p>\n<p>Returning your wave<br \/>\nAs you round the bend<br \/>\nMy lips breathe farewell<br \/>\nWith barely a sound<br \/>\nLike Autumn&#8217;s last leaf<br \/>\nAdrift to the ground<\/p>\n<p>In trying to hold you<br \/>\nFor love\u2019s sake, though blind<br \/>\nA bittersweet truth<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve late come to know<br \/>\nIt\u2019s a far greater love<br \/>\nThat now lets you go<\/p>\n<p>No one can say<br \/>\nWhat tomorrow will bring<br \/>\nAt the end of the day<br \/>\nWhat will be, will be<br \/>\nEach follows his own<br \/>\nSeparate path to the sea<\/p>\n<p>Sailing at the mercy of time<br \/>\nYou have your river, and I mine.<b> <\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>For a complete, up to date list of my stories, check out\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/bonanzabrand.info\/library\/?author=10253\">JC&#8217;s Author Page<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A view from the riverbank, the one left behind.
