All’s Fair in Love and Snow<\/strong><\/p>\n
Adam had been recuperating from his injury to his leg and was getting cabin fever. Christine Shaw had visited a few times, and it had lifted his spirits. Adam had begun to mope about thinking how he was slowly getting better. He hadn\u2019t seen her for a few days which didn\u2019t improve his spirits or even wanting to get back to normal. Adam was taking his frustrations out on the others, so they stayed clear of him.<\/p>\n
Knowing it had been a while, Chris decided to visit Adam and saw Hoss outside throwing snowballs.<\/p>\n
\u201cHello, Hoss.\u201d she greeted.<\/p>\n
\u201cHello, Miss Shaw.\u201d Hoss said and helped her off the sleigh.<\/p>\n
\u201cIs Adam inside?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, but be careful. He\u2019s gruff as a grizzly. But he might be a bit happier seeing you.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chris blushed and smiled. \u201cI\u2019ll go in and surprise him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Before she could move, a snowball came flying towards them and hit her in the stomach. She grunted and held her stomach. She looked surprised.<\/p>\n
Hoss turned towards the side of the house. \u201cLittle Joe, was that you?\u201d he demanded.<\/p>\n
Joe came out from behind the house looking guilty. \u201cSorry, Miss Shaw, I was aiming for Hoss.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s all right. You\u2019ve got a great arm.\u201d Chris said and went inside.<\/p>\n
She opened the door and saw Adam on the settee reading. His back was to the door which was perfect for her to sneak up on him. She put her hand on his shoulder and he yanked it. \u201cJoe, I said leave me alone.\u201d he growled.<\/p>\n
\u201cOuch. What kind of greeting is that?\u201d Chris wasn\u2019t mad, just surprised.<\/p>\n
Adam turned and saw her. \u201cI\u2019m sorry. I didn\u2019t know it was you. Joe has been annoying today.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chris came around the settee and sat by him. \u201cI know, I got hit by a snowball by him.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe hit you with a snowball?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe said he was trying to hit Hoss.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m going to get that kid.\u201d Adam promised.<\/p>\n
\u201cAdam, don\u2019t worry, we\u2019ll get him, eventually. Listen I want to get you out of the house.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd do what?\u201d He groused.<\/p>\n
\u201cGo for a sleigh ride. It\u2019ll just be you and me. You can be away from your brothers for a while.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cLet\u2019s go.\u201d His face brightened. He stood and helped her up.<\/p>\n
She watched him walk and couldn\u2019t miss that he was still limping. She thought she\u2019d say something but decided not to. She didn\u2019t want to irritate him more. Before they went to the sleigh, Chris made a snowball and threw it at Joe who had been talking to Hoss. It hit him in the back. He spun around surprised. Adam was helping her in the sleigh. She wiggled her fingers and smirked as she sat and waited for Adam to get in and they took off.<\/p>\n
Chris drove to the lake. A cold breeze picked up and she shivered. Adam pulled the blanket around her more and she snuggled against him. He kissed her head and rested his head on hers. They were silent for a while.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019ve got a good arm.\u201d Adam broke the silence.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe deserved it.\u201d Chris replied, smiling.<\/p>\n
Adam laughed. \u201cWe\u2019ll just have to think of ways to get Joe. He\u2019s been so irritating lately.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHoss did say you were as gruff as a grizzly.\u201d Chris said chuckling.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, I guess I have been. I think it\u2019s because I haven\u2019t seen you much lately. Also, I haven\u2019t done my exercises so I\u2019m not getting stronger as you may have noticed.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI noticed. I wasn\u2019t going to say anything though.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll do better if you\u2019ll come over more and help.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll see.\u201d she said playfully and kissed him.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019d best get back before we freeze.\u201d Adam said after a bit and took the reigns from Chris.<\/p>\n
They rode home and Adam decided to work on his therapy since Chris was there. They walked a bit in the snow when another snowball was thrown in their direction zooming past Chris\u2019 face. She turned and saw Joe with a wicked grin on his face.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis means war. Little Joe.\u201d<\/p>\n
She made a few snowballs and threw them at Joe. She got him right in the chest. Adam laughed and also threw a snowball at Joe. Hoss watched then joined the snowball war. Ben was in his office watching his boys and Chris playing in the snow. He laughed at the antics Chris pulled on the boys. After the war, they made snow angels and built a snowman.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019d better go.\u201d Chris said after they were done.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think you should stay here and warm up by the fire. Hop Sing made hot chocolate.\u201d Ben said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, since Hop Sing went to the trouble, all right.\u201d Chris said, pretending to decide what to do.<\/p>\n
Just then Hop Sing came out with a tray of hot chocolate and passed it around.<\/p>\n
\u201cHop Sing this is delicious.\u201d Chris said after she took a sip.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you, Miss Christine.\u201d Hop Sing gave a big smile.<\/p>\n
After Chris was dry, she decided to head home. Adam followed her out. \u201cThanks for a fun day and helping me with my exercises with the snow fun. And thanks for getting Joe a few times too.\u201d Adam grinned.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re welcome. I had a lot of fun, too, and it was worth it to see you smiling again.\u201d Chris laughed.<\/p>\n
Adam wrapped his arms around her and kissed her. When they separated, he helped her in the sleigh and waved as she rode off. When she was out of sight, Adam strolled to the house, hardly limping at all. Spending time with Chris again was just what the doctor ordered.<\/p>\n
