Summary:\u00a0<\/span>This is\u00a0a story that I wrote for my English class. My teacher really liked it. It’s about the boys while Ben is out of Town. There is foreshadowing. And we weren’t supposed to have blood and Gore so nothing gruesome in this story. Any spelling or grammar errors\u00a0are my fault.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHappy Birthday, Adam,\u201d Joe said to Adam as Hoss brought out a badly wrapped present.<\/strong> \u201cHere ya go Adam,\u201d Hoss said holding the gift out to Adam. \u201cThanks guys,\u201d Adam said tearing open the brown paper that hid the gift inside. Adam opened the box and pulled out the most beautiful Winchester rifle he had ever seen. It was brown with a charcoal black barrel. On the end was his name carved into it.Off in the distance some rustlers looked over the Ponderosa from a bluff. \u201cWell there she is boys,\u201d the leader said. \u201cYou all know what we are here to do.\u201d The leader looked at the five men behind them to see there reactions. All of them nodded. \u201cGood now let\u2019s go.\u201d The men slowly made there way down the bluff towards the Ponderosa.Back at the house Adam was admiring his new rifle. \u201cWhere did you two get it Hoss?\u201d Adam asked. \u201cWell Pa sent it to us from Chico. We asked him to see if he could find you a gun there so that you wouldn\u2019t find out like you normally do every birthday,\u201d Joe said. \u201cOh,\u201d Adam said. Suddenly they heard shots about 5 miles away from the house. \u201cWhat do you think it is?\u201d Joe Asked. \u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d Hoss said. \u201cWhy don\u2019t we go check it out? \u201c Adam said clasping his rifle. The three Cartwright\u2019s went to the door and went out into the yard. They saddled up and rode out.The boss heard the sound of hoofs and turned to see three horses coming towards him. \u201cWe got company guys,\u201d The boss said. The rest of the men looked also to see the Cartwright\u2019s coming. \u201cLet\u2019s get out of here boss,\u201d One of the men said. \u201cYa, I don\u2019t feel like losing my hide for a couple of steers,\u201d another man said. Shots started being fired over their heads. \u201cI don\u2019t know about you guy\u2019s but I\u2019m getting out of here,\u201d the boss said. All of the rustlers got on there horses and rode off with shots still being fired over their heads.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re running away Adam,\u201d Joe said excitedly. Adam looked and saw that the rustlers were indeed running away. \u201cThat\u2019s a good thing Joe.\u201d Adam, Joe and Hoss rode up to the steers that the rustlers had been trying to steal. They got off and went to examine the spooked herd. \u201cHey Hoss, come and look at this one,\u201d Adam said. Hoss came over to the steer that Adam was looking at. \u201cLook at that wound. It looks accidental doesn\u2019t it?\u201d Adam said. \u201cYa it does. That must have been the shot we heard they must not have meant to fire that shot.\u201d \u201cAre we gonna go after them or are we just gonna sit here?\u201d Joe asked. \u201cWe\u2019ll go after them but no promises that we will find them.\u201d Adam said. Adam started walking back towards his horse when he tripped and his new rifle fell from his hands. There was a shot and Adam looked up to see Joe fall to the ground. Hoss ran over to Joe. \u201cJoe, are you alright?\u201d \u201cYa never better,\u201d Joe said sarcastically. \u201cHow bad is it Hoss?\u201d Joe asked looking down at his thigh, \u201cIt\u2019s not that bad,\u201d Hoss said. \u201cIt\u2019s just a crease.\u201d Adam was looking from his gun to Joe on the ground. \u201cHey Adam want to come help me with Joe,\u201d Hoss said pulling Adam out of his daze. \u201cWhat, oh yeah, coming,\u201d Adam said back to Hoss. Adam picked up his rifle and walked over to Joe and Hoss, putting the safety on his rifle on while he walked. \u201cOk Adam lets get him up on his horse and get home.\u201d Adam and Hoss gingerly picked up Joe and helped him over to his horse and into the saddle. Adam and Hoss then proceeded to get onto their horses and started on the way back to the house. \u201cI\u2019ll ride into town and get the Doctor to come and look at Joe\u2019s leg. I\u2019ll also send a telegram to Pa in California and tell him what happened,\u201d Adam said. \u201cOkay, see you back at the house when you get there.\u201d Adam took the road to town while Hoss and Joe took the road back to the house.<\/p>\n

About an hour later Adam returned to the house with the doctor. Adam and the Doc walked into the house. \u201cJoe\u2019s room is up the stairs and is the third room on the left,\u201d Adam told the Doctor. \u201cThank you, Adam,\u201d the doctor said. Adam walked over to his favorite blue chair next to the fire place and sat down with his rifle in hand. Up in Joe\u2019s room the doctor was looking at the graze on Joe\u2019s thigh. Well Joe doesn\u2019t look like it\u2019s going to get infected but if it does send someone into town to get me.\u201d \u201cWill do Doctor.\u201d \u201cThank You.\u201d The doctor left Joe and came down stairs to see Adam. \u201cHow is he doc?\u201d \u201cHe should be fine. I told him that if it get\u2019s infected to send someone to come get me.\u201d \u201cThank You Doctor. I will send someone in to get you if we need you.\u201d Adam showed the doctor to the door. He then went to the bunkhouse to ask one of the men were Hoss was.\u201d \u201cHey Charlie, where\u2019s Hoss?\u201d \u201cHe\u2019s out in the barn.\u201d \u201cThanks Charlie.\u201d Adam walked out to the barn to talk to Hoss. \u201cHey Hoss, the doc just left. He said that Joe should be fine as long as he doesn\u2019t get an infection.\u201d \u201cWell that\u2019s good.\u201d \u201cI sent that telegram to Pa and he said that he will be home in about two days.\u201d Adam said. \u201cWell that\u2019s good.\u201d \u201cAnd while I was in town I stopped by Sheriff Coffee\u2019s office and told him about the rustlers. He\u2019s got a posse out looking for them as we speak.\u201d \u201cI\u2019m gonna go back in the house and talk with Joe,\u201d Adam said. \u201cOkay, I\u2019ll be in as soon as I\u2019m done attending to the horses.\u201d Adam had just gotten outside of the barn when Sherriff Coffee rode into the yard. \u201cHey Adam, We found those rustlers that you guy\u2019s saw this morning.\u201d \u201cThat was quick.\u201d \u201cWe caught them trying to steal some steers from the ranch about 3 miles away.\u201d \u201cWell that\u2019s good, I\u2019ll be sure to tell Hoss and Joe. Have a nice day Sheriff.\u201d \u201cHey where\u2019s Ben?\u201d Sheriff Coffee asked. \u201cHe\u2019s in California visiting a friend and should be back in about two days.\u201d \u201cThank you, Adam.\u201d Adam turned and continued to the house. He walked up to Joe\u2019s room. \u201cHey Joe, how ya feeling?\u201d \u201cBetter. Who was just in the yard?\u201d Joe asked. \u201cOh that was sheriff Coffee. They caught the rustlers about 3miles down the road.\u201d \u201cOh that\u2019s good.\u201d Joe said. \u201cYeah, you know what happened out there right?\u201d Adam asked. \u201cYes I know you tripped and dropped your gun and I accidentally got grazed by the bullet.\u201d Joe said looking at Adam. \u201cOkay, I knew that that\u2019s what happened but I wanted to make sure that you knew.\u201d \u201cWhy Adam, do you think I thought you shoot me?\u201d \u201cNo. I just wanted to make sure that you didn\u2019t think I did.\u201d Adam said. \u201cWell I don\u2019t think you did it on purpose so you can get rid of that thought right now.\u201d Hoss came into the room. \u201cHey you two, how are you Joe?\u201d \u201cI\u2019m fine, tired though.\u201d \u201cWe\u2019ll leave you be and you can get some rest.\u201d Adam said getting up. Adam and Hoss left as Joe let out a big yawn.<\/p>\n

Two Days later Ben rode into the yard. He jumped off his horse and walked into the house. He saw Joe sitting on the settee reading one of his dime novels. \u201cHiya Pa!\u201d Joe said cheerfully. \u201cHow was your trip?\u201d \u201cFine, just fine.\u201d Ben said. \u201cWhat\u2019s this I hear about you getting shot?\u201d \u201cAh, Pa it\u2019s nothing, just a scratch.\u201d Joe said with a grin. Adam and Hoss came into the house. \u201cHey Pa,\u201d Hoss said. \u201cThanks\u2019 for sending us that rifle.\u201d \u201cYeah, Pa.\u201d Joe said. Adam got quiet. \u201cWhat is it Adam?\u201d Ben Asked. \u201cWell the gun that Joe got shot with was that gun,\u201d Adam said. \u201cNow Adam I told you to forget that,\u201d Joe said giving Adam a stern look. \u201cI know but\u2026\u201d Joe interjected. \u201cI don\u2019t blame you so just forget it.\u201d \u201cFine,\u201d Adam said. \u201cHey pa, about that rifle\u2026\u201d \u201cWhat Adam is there something wrong with it?\u201d \u201cNo Pa, but you have to tell me. Where did you get it?\u201d Hoss and Joe started laughing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
