Seven~~~ Believing
“That’s the last time I’ll ever let someone hoodwink me into to such a fool scheme,” Hoss Cartwright declared. “Just you mind what I say, the very last time!”
Ben Cartwright looked at his middle son and smiled. Then he exchanged a glance with his eldest. Adam read his father’s expression easily. They both knew that Eric Gunnar Cartwright would always follow his heart into one harebrained scheme after another in an effort to help someone achieve a dream. Hoss had the ability to truly believe all anyone needed was faith and a little help. He was always the one to provide the help. Hadn’t he believed the professor’s wings could make him fly, that horseless carriages would fill the streets, and that bank robbery was a necessity not a crime? Adam rolled his eyes and then flashed his dimples in a deep smile.
“Of course not, brother mine,” Adam slapped Hoss on the back, “I’m sure this was the very last time.”
Little Joe just giggled. Hoss could not stop being Hoss, and he was awfully glad of that. Particularly since Joe had an idea of how he and Hoss could raise the money Joe needed to pay off that little gambling debt from last Saturday night, but with Hoss’s current mood he would wait a few days before approaching his big brother.
Hoss could feel the doubt in the room and shook his head, “This time I mean it. Just you wait and see.”

Ben looked up from his desk as the door opened. Hoss was ushering in a small, bespectacled man and a rather mousy-looking woman. Ben rose and went to greet the visitors.
“Pa, these here are the Caspians. They were passing through when their wagon broke down, so I brought ’em here.”
Ben extended his hand and assurances that they both were welcome.
“Now, Pa, why don’t we all set down, and then I can tell ya what Mr. Caspian has out in that wagon. You’re just not going to believe it, Pa.”
Ben hid his smile behind his hand. No, I’m not going to believe it, but you are, son. You always believe.

These are wonderful little peeks at the big guy. He is so special and you’ve shown it in so many ways. Some moving and some funny. Yes, Hoss will always be there for others, no matter what the reason.
