Heap on More Wood

The little boy couldn’t sleep though it was his bedtime hour,
On this night of magic he couldn’t miss his chance,
Down the stairs he crept, his eyes shone brighter than a flower,
Full of childhood belief he lit up the slumbering ranch.

He looked out the window at the glittering snow,
He knew Santa only came to those children in bed,
But the little boy had to check one last time below,
Before his goodnight could finally be said.

In the hearth the fire crackled, warmth it did impart,
A gift the little boy laid where Santa will appear:
A tray of milk and cookies put together with heart,
Nor did he forget a bunch of carrots for the reindeer!

Was the fire bright enough to attract Santa there?
Maybe the flames should be higher, feed the fire he could,
So, with little hands and with his childhood care,
He stoked up the light of Belief, Adam heaped on more wood.

Phrase:  “Heap on More Wood!” from An Old Time Christmas by Sir Walter Scott
Character: Adam.

Though I am a fairIy new Bonanza fan, I have always loved old TV programs and actually feel like I have been born in the wrong century. Since discovering the wonderful world of Bonanza and the loving hearts of the Cartwrights, I have fallen hopelessly in love with Adam...(like seriously, Adam is all I think about day and night). I live alone with a menagerie of snakes, geckos, and a bunny. I love reading, writing poetry, writing erotic poetry about Adam, writing stories about Adam, baking, gardening and raising butterflies, watching old TV shows, and having fantasies about Adam. Does anyone notice a theme here...?

  1. Well done on writing us a poem for the calendar and using your prompt to give us a lovely picture of Adam as a child.
