Cartwright Horses
We work all day with the cows
Then ride at night to the town,
If it’s work in the sun
Or it’s all just for fun,
We Cartwright horses stand proud.
Ben, Adam, Hoss, and Joe, four men we do adore
We had fourteen seasons, just wish there’d been more
Sheriff Coffee and Hop Sing
Candy, Jamie, Griff joined in
Our great inspiration for stories galore!
I wish I had thought in advance
I had finished his hat
His gun and all that
But neglected to knit him some pants.
And by her name, AH thinks Hoss is rather neat
Ben made Hart’s heart flip
Into Tye’s heart, Joe did slip
But which Trailsister for Hop Sing will compete?
Adam and Joe
Adam and Joe have plans for Saturday night,
In hopes of catching a beautiful woman in sight,
Too tight are Joe’s pants,
Too fast is the square dance,
With torn pants Joe runs off into the night!
We work very hard so each month is not the same
Bored you shall not be
Challenged is the key
Seeing more pictures of our fav guys is the acclaim
Hoss:
There’s lots of things for this big man to be thankful for really
For my family, friends, and the Ponderosa especially
But most of all that big bird
By some magic method absurd
That went with all them fine fixin’s into my belly.
Joe
I’d like to thank the Lord for all my blessings this day
A wonderful family, friends, and a bright future before me that lay
I’ve got my fine Cooch
I get to drink some hooch
And then there’s Susie, Mary, Annie, Rosie, and Daisy Mae.
Ben
For Adam, Hoss, and Joe I’m thankful, and for Jamie, too.
The land we love, our hearth and home, for these my thanks is due.
Hop Sing who keeps us clothed and feed
Good friends like Paul and Roy need said
For these and more I thank the Lord today as right to do.
Adam
It’s said I keep my feelings close
Don’t share with ones I love the most
But on this day
I can’t delay
To share with family; my love I boast.
Hop Sing
Thanksgiving day not my tradition but is vewy good.
Cartlights good people, have big kitchen so I make much food.
For Mister Ben, Adam, and Joe
Make ham, beans, pie and potato.
Hoss get whole turkey by himself or he in a bad mood!
Jamie
On the trail I never had much
Food, warmth, love and such
But here in this place
Family has a new face
The Cartwrights that I love so much.
Candy
Got the wanderlust, just an army brat
Cartwrights gave me a place to hang my hat
Wasn’t planning on staying
Not sure why I’m delaying
‘Cept they feel like family, imagine that!
Can’t leave Paul and Roy out! They’re family too.
Paul and Roy
We enjoyed the feast yesterday
A peaceful time, oh yay!
Not a Cartwright was bad
Nor hurt, we’re so glad
Now that’s a good Thanksgiving Day. ![]()
Here’s an old one from my files.
The turkey ran through the yard.
He couldn’t let down his guard.
If he lost his momentum,
Then Hop Sing would get him.
And he’d be served with a pile of Swiss Chard.
Thanked the Lord for fair weather, good health, and land from west to east
His sons their heads did solemnly nod
Even if all thought one thing quite odd
With all their blessings, couldn’t they attract one woman at least.
His eldest two sons were quite dissonant
Both had called the wishbone
And argued in a harsh tone
The youngest took it from the two not vigilant
In honor of National Limerick Day which was May 12th, I found a couple of good ones, very different in content. The first I’m not sure who to credit but the 2nd is by Oliver Wendell Holmes
The limerick packs laughs anatomical
Into space that is quite economical.
But the good ones I’ve seen
So seldom are clean
And the clean ones so seldom are comical.
God’s plan made a hopeful beginning.
But man spoiled his chances by sinning.
We trust that the story
Will end in God’s glory,
But at present the other side’s winning.
To which his sons only simper*
But use that pointy finger
And black eyes that are stingers
The bravest of men will whimper.
