Oh golly gee…what a lovely tribute, patina…one of the most powerful scenes in the whole series, and you have managed to do it justice, girlfriend. That’s saying a lot. I love that you wrote this from Ben’s POV, and his pain at witnessing his boy’s suffering is almost tangible. I am very impressed, patina…this darling little vignette touched my heart. Thanks!
Author’s Response: Thank you, girlfriend. This scene was so powerful that I cried when I watched the ep. For once, Ben didn’t know what to do, how to make it all better. I appreciate you letting me know that this little story captured all of the emotion acted in this scene without detracting from it. Again, thank you.

Lovely, just lovely. That’s Ben to perfection! How much love and wisdom you put into so short a story.
Truly beautiful!
Author’s Response: Thank you, faust. I appreciate you letting me know that I captured the Ben we know and love.

Beautifully written Patina. This is one of the most touching scenes in all of Bonanza and you only enhance it. Oh my. Thanks for sharing.
Author’s Response: Thank you, Smarti. I’m glad to know my story did justice to this brilliantly acted scene.

“Sometimes our actions are much more meaningful than words. A hug can sometimes express more than our words will ever express. Sometimes, just being there to listen is more meaningful and helpful to people.” Catherine Pulsifer
This saying is always in my mind if I saw this scene and it’s also present as I read your story. Thanx for taking time to write this special one. JoeC
Author’s Response: Thank you, JoeC. I’m glad to know my story brought to mind the quote. For once, Ben didn’t seem to know what to do but that hug at the end of the scene was more powerful for me than any other JPM.

Lovely, Patina. So glad you finally watched the episode and wrote this WHIB. My favorite line: “No man should face this kind of heartache, have his dreams shattered like the glass that crunches under our boots.”
Author’s Response: Thank you, Cheaux. I finally worked up my “courage” to watch it and am glad I did. Thank you for sharing your favorite line.

Alchemy of the finest kind, Patina–images and sounds into words that catch the same grief and sympathy we saw in that harrowing episode. Well done!
Author’s Response: Thank you, sklamb! I’m glad to know my words captured that scene so well. Again, thank you.

Lovely, Patina. Of course you’ve taken my favorite scene, but you’ve expanded on it with the dignity it deserves. Nice job!
Author’s Response: Thank you, Pat. This scene was so powerful to me because Ben seemed afraid to touch Joe. I appreciate knowing that I done good.

Just as wonderful as the first time I read it more than 10 years ago and the tears still flowed.
Patina, in for another read. This is still as fresh as the first time I read it and the emotion so raw and real. You captured everything from that episode and more. Still an emotional and lovely read. Well done!
This was a touching story full of so many emotions. Joe is lucky to have Ben for support during this difficult time.
Your Forever tribute was absolutely beautiful!Well done!!!
Thank you, Wrangler!
I feel Joe’s pain; however, Ben’s love is greater.
Thank you, Rosalyn! Even though Ben had experienced this kind of loss three times, it must have been difficult to see his son going through this.
Love the way you told the story through Ben’s eyes and emotions. So poignant. I felt their pain.
Thank you, Susan Pitch!
A nice description in Ben’s voice.
This is such a powerful moment and you added to it beautifully. Thank you!
I’m such a sucker for Forever stories. This one has evidently struck a chord with me since I seem to reread it on a fairly regular basis. I love it being told through Ben’s eyes.
Thank you, Ruth. It means a lot to know you enjoy this little story so much.
Thank you so much, Cheaux!
Lovely, patina! This memorable moment seen through Ben’s eyes is perfectly told.
