The Meaning of Christmas
“Hoss… wha’ K’issmas?”
“It’s Jesus’ birthday, Little Joe.”
“Cake?”
“Naw… but awful good food anyhow. It’s special, fer sure. Adam, you tell ‘im.”
“Hoss is right, little brother. It’s Jesus’ birthday, but even more, it’s the day God gave US a birthday gift.”
“Us get presents?”
“Already got it.”
“Pa?”
“Adam means that Bible verse, Joseph. ‘For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.’”
Silence.
“You no give ‘way Joe?”
Chuckle.
“Never, little one. Pa loves you too much to let you go.”
