So I guess we can just blame Jamie all on you then 🙂 Couldn’t stop chuckling as I read this; thanks for the evening entertainment!

Author’s Response: I’m glad to know you enjoyed this story, slaine. There has to be some reason Jamie just showed up, right? LOL

FINALLY, I was able to sit for awhile to enjoy this, and it was well worth the wait!  Reminded me a bit of the movie ‘The Neverending Story’, only with a Bonanza twist.  There are a handful of writers in Bonanzadom whose quick wit and wacky sense of humor never fails to make me laugh, and Patina, you are one of ‘em.  I’m especially awed by the fact that you can do this and still keep the Cartwrights in character, even despite knocking down that “fourth wall” that Sklamb mentioned.  I loved the way Adam never got in a dither but still managed to figure out what was going on, just like Adam would do.   ‘Noticing a pile of paperwork on the desk, Adam tidied up, placing current wanted posters into a pile and tossing those marked “Caught” into the trash can.’—that one gave me a big guffaw.   And Joe’s whimpered “Pie. Don’t…burn.”  Ha!  And tying the poor boy down with…twine?  Lol!  And Ben threatening to punish Adam with the dreaded chore of beaning horses—gee, where on earth did you learn about that? 😉

Another wild ride from Patina, and I enjoyed it every step of the way.  The star-ranking system doesn’t show up for me, so I can’t do that, so I’ll just say it here:  5 stars!

Author’s Response: Thank you, SP! Sure wish you could see the huge smile on my face right now. Beaning…lol. It sounds like a dreadful and awful chore based on your hubby’s reaction to discovering the “fun” so I can imagine Ben using it as punishment. I’m not sure if Lisa’s forgiven me yet for the twine (lol). I’m thrilled to pieces that you enjoyed this story so much! Your review is one I’ll treasure. 🙂

This is a very funny satire!

The inclusion of real-life characters that we all know was one more ingredient in this recipe for success!

Author’s Response: Thank you, maria vaz! I’m so pleased to know you enjoyed this story!

One of the most amusing SJS for Devonshire stories I’ve read–and one of the best blurrings of the “fourth wall” as well! (Swap you some margarita mix for a sheet of that paper, eh?) Thank you so much for sharing this with us!

Author’s Response: Thank you, sk! I’d love some of that margarita mix! A couple sheets of enchanted paper for margarita mix sounds fair to me! I’m glad to know you enjoyed this.

Oh, and by the way, if I could give it more stars, I would.

LOL!!  I love it!!  And it explains a lot of things that I could never quite figure out.  You should make this a series, P!!!

Author’s Response: Thank you, G! A series, eh? Hmmm… I’ll have to think on that. The recipe does have lots of uses, though. Maybe that would explain Laura Dayton (lol).

Thanks for the explanation.  I plan on checking out some of your other stories.  I enjoy reading about what life may have been prior to the time period of the show.

Author’s Response: Thank you, Chavel! I hope you’ll enjoy my other stories.

Pernell Roberts would have loved this story because of the biting tendency.

Michael Landon would have loved this story because of it’s humor

and I have laught because as a SJS and JPM obsessed person you took me for a ride, in a friendly way.

Thanx for this story. JoeC

Author’s Response: Thank you, Helga! I’m smiling so big from your compliments. And I’m so glad to know you enjoyed this story.

Good story.  Interesting twists.  Wonder if the paper will make Ben a grandfather.

What do the initials mean?

Author’s Response: Thank you, Chavel! I’m pleased to know you enjoyed it. SJS stands for Suffering Joe Syndrome and JPM stands for Joe-Pa Moment.

I'm a historical archaeologist who loves westerns and Bonanza is my favorite. I wrote my first Bonanza story in 2006 and the plot bunnies are still hopping. The majority of my stories include the entire family and many are prequels set during the period when Ben and Marie were married.

  1. This was hysterical, Patina. I needed a good laugh and this story delivered. Loved the stomp of the patriarchal boot and the long forefinger!

  2. Um, I kind of threw up in my mouth at the thought of licorice drops for dessert, so I’m glad the pie didn’t burn after all. Poor Joe, what you gals love to put him through! Hope Ben hid that magic paper in a safe place, because I have a feeling Adam’s going to be looking for it. A fun read, Patina. 🙂
