Timber!
“Damnation!” Ben stared down at his sons sitting among the remains of the Christmas tree. “Any bleeding? Sprains? Broken bones?”
“No, Pa.”
“No.”
“Then what in blazes happened?”
“Adam grab Joe. Pull down tree.”
“Me… HE WAS CLIMBING IT!”
Little Joe whimpered. Marie snatched the three-year-old from Adam’s lap and hurried away.
Ben pulled his older sons to their feet. “Explain.”
“He didn’t let go. The tree came down.”
Ben shook his head. “Get it cleaned up.”
Hoss unconsciously rubbed his backside; Adam did likewise. “Yet again, Little Joe misbehaves and ends up the only brother without a sore behind.”
