Don’t know how I missed this story when it was posted, but I am sure glad to have found it. What a diabolical villian and I am sure glad he got his comeuppance! The plotting was intricate and well developed. Even though we knew “who dun it,” the delight was in seeing the family, Roy, Clem and Hop Sing work separately to make everything come out all right in the end. Loved your original characters, Garrett and Hank and even that conniving Ellie. Well done.

I converted this for my kindle and got sucked right into the story only to find out that the whole story didn’t copy over. Of course I was at work and had no way to finish it. Talk about withdrawals all day. I rushed home and finished it and it was well worth it. I found myself holding my breath throughout the story. I just loved Deputy Hop Sing and how seriously he took his job. I bet Roy wished he had the connections that Hop Sing does. I like how you brought Clem in and the rational way he not only dealt with the bad guys, but with Joe. Once a again a very nice family story showing the strong bond that they have.

Again we see how each Cartwright will go past his own pain if it means helping or protecting another family member; this includes deputy Hop Sing.
The ending tied up the story in a light-hearted manner.

This was a thoroughly satisfying read, with lots of dramatic tension and even-handed involvement of all characters. I was particularly taken with the section dealing with Hoss’s emotions, while trapped, and how his recollection of the words of the hymn spoke to his heart so specifically in his situation. Another strong section was Ben’s response to the actions he had taken against his opponent, feelings often overlooked in stories where Ben expresses willingness to do anything to save his sons. Thanks for dealing with a good man’s reaction when he fears he’s stepped over the line in that quest.

I found that section particularly rewarding to write. I’m also glad you found Ben’s reaction to his own actions to be satisfying. Who could blame him for thinking first of his family, including Hop Sing, and of innocent victims, such as the girl, and forgetting for that moment about the fact that the bad guy would need help, too? This is an excellent story! One of the best fanfics I’ve read yet. The Cartwrights were so true to character and I love that you included Roy, Clem, and Hop Sing. This story was intense but I was always left with a feeling of hope. Great writing and I can’t wait to read more of your work :0)

Thank you so much for this story! As always I love the way you incorporate the whole family in a freya-typical edge-of-your-seat, dramatically twistful plot. I also enjoyed seeing Hop Sing and Clem have their time in the spotlight, and I loved to hate your villian. Great read!

Wow! What a story with so many true-to-canon characters and so much intrigue. I found it last night and was immediately so gripped that I didn’t really register the title and author. I was about half-way through when I realized that it was long past my bedtime. When I returned this morning, I was horrified to find that my computer had somehow closed the tab, so I spent an hour going through lists of stories of various authors, trying to remember key topics or names that would let me refine a search. Then I remembered something of the title (Kings/Aces) and found it! Whew! I’m so glad that everything wrapped up nicely and Hop Sing is OK and Mei Ling has a future and Joe/Hoss/Adam/Ben will no doubt live for another adventure.
What a great story! The drama and tension never let up until you were ready to bring home some solutions. Thanks ..
I know I’ve read this in another site (and maybe even reviewed too), but I wanted to drop a line here and say how much I really enjoy this story. Love the focus on Bencand all three of the boys, love Hop Sing’s big role :-), and glad to see Clem get a good part as well (though Roy is a must, of course). Great story, thx for writing!
Quite the tale. Loved every bit of it from the usually well done SJS to Adam and Joe’s relationship, to the great Pa moments with all the boys, and then on to a wonderful funny ending with Hop Sing! I was laughing out loud. Thanks!
