Something special…. that was for a challenge. Not really on Bonanza, but with  the Bonanza’s actors.

I’ve got to ride, ride like the wind, to be free again

1962,  a Bonanza rodeo. I am with my best friend Betsy. She is overexcited. Just watching at her running and yelling makes me feeling bad.  She jumps everywhere like a kangaroo lost somewhere in Death Valley. She sings very loud, « I’ve got, I’ve got to ride, ride like the wind, to be free again ». People around us look at us with exasperation.

Please, show me where I can hide. I am very very embarrassed. I listen at shouts from the crowd : they soon will come. Betsy can’t help yelling, she wants to see them. I’m quite certain, she could walk on people, if she could, to be on the best place. A man is now shouting in the microphone,  that electrises young ladies. They’re waiting for him : for Pernell Roberts , some of them are waiting for Cochise and Little Joe. I can’t believe, I’m here ; in the middle of crazy ladies, with hysterical fans.  what I make in the middle of T-shirts filled with sweat and with hysterical girls and my Betsy there, totally lost in her love for Adam…. Lost ? Oh yeah, I just lost her, I can’t see her anymore. Where is she ?  NOOOO, I can’t believe it, she’s now on the ground, she tryes to thread her way between legs to be close to the street… She choosed to walk on her hands and knees ; she shouts , I hear her voice, because some people just treated on her fingers.  She has just put on on all fours, I hear her to shout because they walked  on her fingers. After all, she chooses to walk that way, so there might be paintful consequences. Ok ok, that’s not kind. I’m anxious to see how that all is gonna to finish. While loudspeakers spit out the generic of Bonanza, I look aroud at the street. Suddenly they arrive :  four cowboys in tan pants and white shirts with tie, are coming on their beautiful horses. I have a look on the tiny green jacket on Little Joe.  Pernell is there too and that’s a big surprise. And  the girls seem to appreciate his presence. It was told in the news that he wants to leave the set. Apparently the guy don’t like that kind of exhibition.   But all this is well far from my concerns. I must say that I must be the only one which turn now her back to the rodeo. While pussycats bawl and applaud, I scan the crowd behind me to find my friend who isn’t reappeared. A deaf anxiety clutches me: and if somebody would have trampled her. I must dispel of my mind this sinister perspective. I must trust in her, she is shrewd and smart.
Suddenly, I see her or rather I hear about her:

“look at this one, look at her, , that one there. She has some nerve !

Betsy for sure, no doubt about it… She is now in the middle in the street, running towards the horses… I know exactly the direction she’ll take : she stoppes in front of Pernell Roberts horse and she shouts « ADAMMMMMMMMM »….  the horse kicks, Pernell pulls on reins; the horse rears. OH MY GOD, NO…. In the worst, she is going to be killed, at best, she is going to unbolt Adam Cartwright of his setting. I don’t want to see that; I  close my eyes, I pray every gods I know : Allah  Zézabel , Kryshna, Buddha and Elvis Presley; yes yes, he is a God for me… People are shouting, people are holding their breath. And still the loud music :  “that’ s why we call it Bonanza”… Cartwright is the name” and I tell myself “move away from there, away from there.”

That’s a reality ; Pernell Roberts is now on the ground,  Adam Cartwright just bite the dust. He stands up, dust off hat, pants and shirt. Lovely bottom, oh dear, I have to admit it…  Some girls are now shouting louder, how many would take care of him at this moment… And Betsy ? She uses the occasion ; she throws herself into his arms and kisses him impetuously.  Lorne Greene, who has already dismounted at the bottom  to go to Pernell, stops. Michael Landon just caught the licol of the horse to control him. No policemen ready to act, nobody, just the organizers in their stand.  From what I see, I can’t say if he appreciates or not.  Betsy has still her hands on his chest, I’m quite certain, she won’t wash her hands for a long time…. And I can imagine her saying « I touched him, I touched him ».   Anyway, I wonder how I am going to have her again, she’s not ready to let her trophy.

At the end of the day.

She finished in a first-aid post because my Betsy, having seen her hero, fainted. When she woke up, I said to her that  Pernell took her in his powerful arms and put her in this small room. She didn’t believe me, but when she saw, near her, what was put down, she started to cry.

“For my sweet Betsy, stunt woman, the only one  who was able to unhorse famousAdam Cartwright”… With a broad signature on the top of the card.”

I live in France. I'm a teacher. I'm a recent Bonanza Fan, but not a recent writer. I always used to write so I keep writing. And now Bonanza is part of my inspiration. I love writing prequels, trying to imagine how Ben Cartwright could raise young children, after so much pain and tragedy. I work now with an english friend who help me for translating. I read many fanfiction, and my english is improving. I hope, you'll have fun reading my imaginary world. Thanks for future visits and reviews.
