* Day 4 *
To start the Free For All day, I’ll give you my humble offering. As stated, poetry isn’t really my strong suit (not even in German, so writing ESL is no excuse here), and I realise that there’s no semblance of meter in it and I even jumbled the rhyme scheme.
But, I said I’d deliver, so I do. Somehow. ![]()
Remember, remember,
Gone days of December.
Elizabeth, bright and gay,
Cherished all the joys of Christmas Day.
Yet of all the delights to desire,
Of all the happiness to aspire
She never was granted the most precious one:
To celebrate the day with her own son.
Remember, remember,
Gone days of December.
Inger, full of goodness and cheer,
Baked pepperkakor men and deer
For Adam, on whom she tenderly smiled.
But she never got to bake,
Neither cookies or cake,
For Hoss, her biological child.
Remember, remember,
Gone days of December.
Marie, so pretty and free,
Was mother to them all,
To tiny Joe, To Hoss, even to Adam so tall.
A couple of years, then she was ripped from thee.
Now it’s just you and the boys, and the days go so fast,
And there are only memories of Christmases past.
Remember, remember,
Gone days of December.
