Good fun with a nice twist at the end–and a good reminder about how much pure hard work we never saw “our boys” doing on the TV show! Thank you!!

Author’s Response: Yes, the story was fun to write, but I’m not so sure it was fun for the brother involved.  I guess with any good reality show, you can only see so little during that 60 minute of broadcast, and maybe the producers just thought the ‘pure hard work’ was too much drudgery to ask the viewers to sit through.  Thank you for reading and reviewing.

Not what I’d expected but instead an awesomely crafted little story. :-)Great use of the prompt, BWF!

Author’s Response: Thank you, it was a fun tale to write.  Sort of like… bait the hook, play out the line, reel them in, and then when the reader is sure that something is about to happen… Turn the story around with a twist.

What a wonderful brothers story! For years I listened to the lion loose in our bedroom [my husband’s snoring] and now that he’s gone I can’t sleep without the noise!

I’m glad you enjoyed!!  I too suffer through the ‘lion loose’.  As with the brother in my story, I wish it were thunder, the gentle rolling thunder instead.

I reckon I have figured the puzzle out–not that I’m going to spoil anyone else’s fun, or risk making a fool of myself! But even if I’m wrong it’s still a fun companion to the earlier story–and, once again, a reminder of what “real” ranching is like. (When did the Cartwrights ever get the time to engage in all their adventures?) Thank you for sharing!

Author’s Response:

Sue, as long as you’re sure which brother was assigned which task… that’s all the counts.  And I agree, when did they EVER get the time to even think about robbing a bank, or dressing up like an Easter bunny, or swooning after the ladies, or…

Thank you for reading and reviewing, oh and by the way… You could never make a fool of yourself!

Nice visuals.  I could clearly picture each movement as the Cartwrights greeted the day.

Author’s Response:

Cheaux, I’m glad you enjoyed!

A dressage rider who's a cowgirl at heart. I wasn't old enough during the heyday of Westerns on TV. However, with the introduction of cable and satellite services in the 1980's, I fell in love with Bonanza, Lancer, The Big Valley, The Rifleman, and The Wild, Wild West, among others. Through syndication and fanfiction; our heroes will live on forever. I hope you enjoy the stories I've written, and I look forward to reading your comments.

  1. I don’t know, this was a tricky story about the brothers. Between Adam and JOe it was hard to figure which one did which Job. But I think Adam had the mudpie job and Little Joe did the beaver job. Joe always seems to get stuck with the worst jobs on the ranch. Both jobs seem like tough jobs. thanks

    1. JC2, the poor brothers, right? Thanks for giving this one a read and for leaving a comment.

  2. I had read the story through 3 whole times but I think I’ve decided that Adam was the mudpie brother and Joe was the beaver brother! I think what brought me completely to that conclusion was the fact that Hoss slapped the second brother on his backside to wake him up—just one question, what would Adam do if Hoss ever did that to him when he wasn’t even a quarter awake yet and had kept him up all night?! World War III that’s what would happen!!!!!!

I think I could still be wrong because it’s a toss up from all the confusing clues and I know you can’t actually tell me, Bluewind, because of the spoiler to readers who haven’t discovered this work of art yet but I just wanted to tell you my conclusion!! Thanks for a real brainer!!!!!!

    1. Miss Kitty, I think you might be right about WWIII erupting. And Hoss was too smart to attempt that movement with his older brother. Thank you for reading and commenting.
