SUMMARY:  A year late but here is the 2017 Once Upon a Midnight Dreary challenge to write a Gothic story in the style of Poe.  This is my entry for the 2018 Better Late Than Never challenge.  There’s murder and mayhem in Virginia City and the limited evidence points toward an unlikely suspect.  The gruesome deeds occur off scene for it is the aftermath that matters most.

Summary: The first in a series of four stories, this one features Adam ensnared in a number of difficult situations as his brothers try to help by playing matchmaker for him. It doesn’t go well of course as romance should never be attempted by a team.

Summary: As three of the Cartwrights are making their way home for Christmas, Ben becomes ill.  Adam and Hoss find a rancher willing to give them refuge from the cold and snow.  Little do they know, their rescuer has a connection with another journey the Cartwrights made many years earlier. Ben, Adam and Hoss find they’ve come full circle in their Christmas journeys.

Summary: Just as the Civil War is coming to a close, Ben Cartwright arrives in Washington DC at the request of his old friend President Lincoln. Lincoln makes him an offer that could change his life, taking him away from this sons and the Ponderosa forever. If he refuses the offer, the powers that be have other plans to make him comply. But after a fateful night at Ford’s Theater, a medical emergency sends Ben into the lair of a vengeful doctor and an experience far worse than any amount of political scheming.
